The INDEPENDENT, August 19, 1998 Page 9 Results of ‘98 Jamboree Logging Show Scott Whitehead accumulat ed 20 points to take first place as All Around Logger in the 1998 Vernonia Jamboree Log ging Show. The Tillamook log ger trailed Kevin Hofenbredl going into the water events, then pulled ahead by winning the Pole Walk and placing sec ond in the Boom Stick Run. Whitehead also placed first the Pole Walk & Snip, and took third in both Choker Setting and Steeple Chase. Hofenbredl, of Grand Ronde, placed first in two events- Choker Setting and Working Saw 5-6 ci, second in the Steeple Chase and third in Working Saw 4-5 ci, for 17 points. Matt Samuelson, Elsie, was third with 11 points. Following are the placings for first, second and third in each event. Working Saw, 5-6 ci: K. Hofenbredl, Jasson Kyser, Ray Kyser. Axe Throw: Geoff Hoffert, R. Kyser, Louis Lardy. Kid’s Axe Throw: Robert Shawley, Tim Shawley, Zach Posch. Working Saw, 4-5 ci: Jim Horn, Lee Hofenbredl, K. Hofenbredl. Women’s Bucking: Darla Lardy, Lisa Wissie, Tracy Hofenbredl. Pole Walk & Snip: White- head, Samuelson, Jason Howard. Women’s Hard Hat Toss: Wissie, T. Hofenbredl, Carla Strand. Choker Setting: K. Hofen bredl, Samuelson, Whitehead. Unlimited Bucking: Horn, R. Kyser, J. Kyser. Kid’s Choker Setting: R. Shawley, Kim Normand, Posch. Steeple Chase: Hoffert, K. Hofenbredl, Whitehead. Pole Fall (all hits): J. Kyser, Luis Vidart, Terry Riggs. Boom Stick Run: Charles Gann, Whitehead, L. Hofen bredl. Pole Walk: Whitehead, Gann, Samuelson. H ofenbredl is Logger of Year Kevin Hofenbredl, of Grand Ronde, easily outdistanced the competition to earn the title of Columbia County Logger of the Year for 1998. Hofenbredl, who had accu mulated 48 points in the Clatskanie, Rainier and Colum bia County Fair Logging Shows, added 17 more in Ver nonia for a total of 65 points. Jeff Skirvin and Les Skirvin, who had amassed 31 points and 25 points, respectively, in the first three shows, didn’t compete in Vernonia.
