Animals to be auctioned are prize-winning livestock raised by 4-H and FFA mem bers. Every purchase helps support the education pro gram of these youth groups. It also provides the opportunity to select the choicest beef, pork, lamb and rabbit for your dining pleasure. A sales catalog will be pro vided to all bidders, listing the animals, their weights and owners. As each animal is led into the ring, the auctioneer asks for bids in cents-per- pound. Anyone wishing to bid on an animal, may just raise a hand. If help is wanted with the bidding, Auction Commit tee members will provide as sistance. sistance. If you or your organization wants to help, but have no use for an animal, buy one at the auction, then resell it at market price to a commercial packer. Here’s how Anyone interested in enter ing open competition at the Columbia County Fair needs to prepare immediately. The fair is scheduled for July 23- 26 and has an outstanding ar ray of exhibits and entertain ment. Open competition is avail able in the following depart ments: Livestock, Art & Pho tography, Culinary, Hobby, Agriculture, Floral, Textile. Food handler class available here Columbia County Sanitari an Mark Edington will hold a food handlers’ Cass at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, in the library at Washington Elemen tary School in Vernonia. Participants will study the booklet, watch a film and have the opportunity to ask Eding ~ t u,ny- ton questions. Those who successfully pass ihe food handler’s test will receive a food handlers permit. Fee for taking the test is $10. The booklet costs $2.00. An evaluation by represen tatives from the Commission on Colleges will take place on the Pacific campus October 14-16. Pacific University cur rently is accredited as a four- year undergraduate college Annual Breakfast and Dog Show slated for Banks Banks High School will be the site of the Banks Booster Breakfast and Tualatin Ken nel Club Dog Show on Sun day, July 20. It will soon be opening a grad uate degree program for physician assistants. Colleges and universities in the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges must be re-accredited every 10 years. Pacific University was most recently accredited in 1987.
