_____________ i n i y u |i q 199/ r d y e Iw More than 2,000 spectators enjoy action at RiverCity Speedway 3v Mike Weber By Special to The INDEPENDENT Portland’s Dan Fox was the standout performer Saturday in the th ird event of the Columbia County Racing As sociation schedule, with over 120 cars entered in five class es of racing and more than 2,000 fans, one of the largest crow ds ever at R iverC ity Speedway. Fox was a two- time winner with his Exide Bat teries Chevrolet Lumina as he posted victories in the six-lap heat race and 35-lap Sports- man Main Event. Four other Main Event win ners included Terry Bacon, Seaside, and Larry Follett, Al bany. Bacon led from start to finish in his Chevelle as he captured the 30-lap Street Stock feature. Follett won the 15-lap Modified Main with his Rhodes Performance Chassis- sponsored car. Tyler Ferrando, Salem, won the Pro-4 Modified 25-lap fe a tu re and Brenda Hurley, Castle Rock, Wash., won the W om en’s D ivision Main Event. Fox started fifth in the 15- ___« car Sportsman Main and took the lead on lap 17 after pass ing frontrunner Leroy White. Fox m aintained a sizeable lead until a lap 22 caution flag delayed his inevitable victory. He won by a straig hta w ay length over Dykstra’s Pinard’s Auto Repair Lumina. Bacon started third in the 14-car Street Stock Main and q u ickly took the lead a fte r passing fro n tru n n e rs Paul Fortney and 17-year-old Corey Cook. Following a lap-six cau tion fla g , Bacon zoom ed ahead and gained a big lead " over Longview’s Jackie Olson in the Silver Star Sports Bar Camaro and Sam Morrison, Scappoose. Without any yel low flags for the remainder of the race, Bacon maintained the advantage and won by 10 car lengths over Olson. Morri son, 1996 Street Stock division runnerup, finished third in his 1977 Camaro. Current division leader Troy S chreiner, Longview, took fourth in his C h ris ’ C hoice M eats-spon- sored Oldsmobile Cutlass.
