Page 4 The INDEPENDENT, May 7.1997 Vernonia Country Kitchen expands offerings with “Pizza Diner” Betty Vaughn and her fam ily are not quitters! They were hit especially hard by the flood of *96, taking a double hit and getting little financial aid to speed the recovery. Now almost totally restored, Vernonia Country Kitchen shows little evidence of the damage done. The final touch on the inte rior—end the restaurant’s de velopment— is the creation of the Pizza Diner, a pizza parlor in a back room recently res cued from flood damage. A new kitchen, separate from the restaurant, features ovens and workspace to pro duce pizza in 10, 13 or 16- inch sizes, with a choice of ten toppings. There’s even a house specialty...a fruit pizza similar to apple pie, but with a pizza crust. This venture involves sev eral family members. In addi tion to Betty, there are her sons Dave and Marshall, daughter Kristi, and three grandchildren, James, Jasar and Cody. Riders will register at 9:00 a m.; laps will be counted un til about 11:30. Participants will secure pledges before the ride starts. There will be prizes for the youngsters and the person raising the most money over $100 will go home with a brand new boom box.
