T h e m e e tin g w ill b e A p ril P la in o r T a n e y IVAN C. REED Ivan Clarence Reed, 83, died April 10, 1997. Graveside services were held April 15 in Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg. Mr. Reed was bom Jan. 1, 1914, in Vernonia and graduated from Ver nonia High School He worked for logging companies and as a fireman on a steam donkey engine. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He was preceded in death by two wives, Beatrice Gardner and Edna Matthews. Survivors include a brother, Robert, and a sister, Beulah Maiken, both of Vernonia. Attrell’s Newberg Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. 11 at Vernonia Memorial Cemetery, with Chaplain Dick Halaas from Tual- ity Community Hospital in Hillsboro, officiating. Interment followed. Mr. Sword was bom August 10, 1960, in the home of his Grandmoth er Millis in Vernonia, to Alexander F. “Bill" and Blanche ‘ Faye" (M illis) Sword. He was raised in Vernonia, and graduated from Vernonia High School in 1979. He served as stu dent body president during his senior year in high school. He attended Western Business College in Portland, majoring in ac counting. He lived in Vernonia until 1995, when he moved to Silverton. Mr. Sword worked as a heavy equipment and machine operator in Sword Logging, with his father and brother. He was a member of the First MAX A. SWORD Max Alexander Sword, 36, Silver- ton, died April 5, 1997, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle acci dent. Graveside services were April Christian Church in Vernonia, the Sil verton Elks Lodge, the Vernonia Golf Club, and the Evergreen Golf Club in 2 8 a t 7 :0 0 p .m . in th e V e rn o n ia S e n io r C enter.
