Seven
minors
pleaded guilty to the charge.
Each was fined $100, sus
pended, and six months pro
bation. Fine and charges will
be dismissed if they complete
thesix months with no further
tobacco citations.

MADD donates intoxilyzer units
Two portable intoxilyzer
units have been donated to
the Columbia County Sheriff’s
Office by the Columbia Coun
ty Chapter of Mothers Against
Drunk Driving (MADD).
The intoxilyzer units will be
used by deputies to enforce
under-age drinking laws at al
cohol parties attended by mi
nors. Prior to receiving the
portable units, deputies had
to rely on their sense of smell
to determine if a person had
consumed alcohol. The intox
ilyzer units will provide a
much more accurate tool to
determine if someone has
been consuming alcohol.
The local MADD Chapter
purchased three portable
units at a total cost of
$753.00. The third unit was
given to the Columbia City
Police Department.
