Th« INDEPENDENT, April 3,1996 Pag« 13 Scaffolding is returned from Nehalem Richard Egan, supervisor for Wildish Standard Paving Co. on the bridge widening job on Hwy, 47 south of Ver nonia, was recently reminded that there are some great people in this area. The Feb. 8 flood caused considerable damage to the construction that was under way on the bridge: it also ru ined or sw ept away large amounts of construction ma terials, including two 24' x 2' alum inum scaffold planks worth about $750 each. The flood took the planks down-river about a half-mile, where Gary Moore of Vernon ia and Brian Kennedy of St. live red to Vernonia by youngsters from the Beaverton Four- Square Church. The children worked to raise the money for their purchases. Luau show will aid Vernonia Cares A Luau Show will be pre sented by Pacific University at Washington Grade School, Saturday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. P erform ers w ill present Hawaian music, dancing and costumes.
