BOE will hear property tax petitions The 1996 Columbia Coun ty Board of Equalization ses sion will begin in early Jan uary, 1996. Deadline for filing Board of Equalization p e ti tions with Columbia County Clerk is December 31, 1995. However, since the deadline occurs on Sunday, petitions will be accepted through 5:00 p.m ., Tuesday, January 2, 1996. Petitions postmarked January 2, w ill also be a c cepted. Elizabeth E. Huser, Colum bia C o u n ty C le rk, re c o m mends that petitions, along with evidence supporting the petitioners request for reduc tion of property taxes, be sub mitted as early as possible to allow staff time to prepare for hearings. Hearings will be scheduled from m id to la te Ja n u a ry through early April, 1996. Johnson moved to Vernon ia from Vermillion, So. Dakota in September with her daugh ter, Hannah, one of four chil dren. Two children live with their father in Iowa; a grown son lives in Texas.
