WILLIAM C. HANSEN William C. Hansen, 67, Emmett, Idaho, died April 4, 1995, at his home of cancer. Memorial services were held April 7 at Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett Mr. Hansen was bom March 6, 1928, in Boise, Idaho. He graduated from Nyssa (Oregon) High School in 1946. He joined the U.S. Navy and served nearly four years as a medi cal corpsman, stationed at Pams Is land, S. C., and on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Franklin Delano Roosevelt. After receiving an honorable dis charge, he went to work as a regis tered medical technologist and x-ray technician at Mary Secor Hospital in Emmett In 1955, he was appointed administrator of the hospital. During this time, he was involved in many Emmett organizations, in cluding Kiwanis and Jr. Chamber of Commerce and, because of his ac tivities on behalf of the community, received the Distinguished Service * Award. He later held administrative posi tions at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise and Sun Valley Hospital in Sun Valley, Idaho. In 1971, he accepted a position as Field Consultant with the Ameri can Hospital Association. He moved to Vernonia and traveled from there to hospitals throughout the North west. Mr. Hansen stayed active in com munity efforts, serving on the Ver nonia Planning Commission, Vernon ia City Council and the Columbia County Emergency Communications (9-1-1) Board. At the time of his retirement, he was employed by the Oregon Associ ation of Hospitals. His professional activities includ ed membership in the American Col lege of Hospital Administrators and the presidency of the Idaho Hospital Association. He also owned and op erated a private health care compa ny. After retirement, he moved first to Fishhawk Lake in Birkenfeld, then re turned to Emmet, where he wrote a weekly gardening column for the Emmett Messenger-Index. He also owned and operated a garden store and flower shop. S urvivors include his wife, Blanch, whom he married in 1987; mother, Florence Betzold of Boise; daughter, Pam Clark of Kemmerer, Wyo.; sons, Guy of Hailey, Idaho, and Glen of Brush Prairie, Wash.; stepson, John Laughlin of Longview, Wash.; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Lynn. Memorial contributions may be to the Emmett Kiwanis Club Tree Com mittee. Ml LUCENT OUN MANNING M illice n t O lin M anning, 82, Salem, died April 4, 1995, in a Salem care center of heart failure. Funeral services were held April 10 at How- ell-Edwards-Doerksen Chapel of the Gardens. A committal service and in terment were held the same day at Vernonia Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Manning was bom Jan. 4, 1913, in Mill City, where she attend ed school. Manning in 1941 in Portland. She worked for Pacific Telephone in Portland for several years. After living in El Paso, Texas, for 35 years, she came to Salem on March 14, 1995. She was a m em ber of C hrist Episcopal Church, in El Paso, and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971. Services include daughters, Frances Fessler of Salem and Vir ginia Pebelske of Woodridge, III.; four grandchildren and two great-grand children. MYRLE A. JONES Myrle A. Jones, 89, Hillsboro, died April 5, 1995. Funeral services were held April 7 at Forest Grove Memorial Chapel. Interment was in M onum ent H ill M em orial Park, Woodland, Calif. Mrs. Jones was born Jan. 31, 1906, in Beardstown, III. Her maiden name was Brown. She was reared and educated in Arkansas. She m arried George Smith in 1925; he died in 1941. In 1959, she married Desmond E. Jones. He also preceded her in death, in 1966. Mrs. Jones lived in Arkansas and California before moving to Hillsboro in 1967. She worked in restaurants, a shirt factory and a foster-care home. S urvivors include daughters, Leona Crites of Hillsboro, Glenda Crites of North Plains, Shirley Smith of Cornelius and Louise Swink of Locfi, Calif.; sons, Harold D. Smith of North Plains and Charles W. Smith of Vernonia; sisters, Ruby Johnson of Carruthers, Calif., and Doilie Boswell of Forest G rove; b ro th e r D ancil Brown of Paragould, Ark.; 26 grand children; 52 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. PAUL E. BELL Paul E. Bell, 63, Forest Grove, died March 29, 1995, at his home. Funeral services were held March 31 at Bronleewe-Bass Funeral Home in Hillsboro, with Pastor Dan Bohlken officiating. Interment was on family property in Spray. Mr. Bell was bom April 25, 1931, in Albany, to Earl C. and Inez E. Williams Bell. He was raised in the" Cooper Mountain area and attended Kinton Grade School and Beaverton High School. He and his wife, Elizabeth, were m arried in Vancouver, Wash., in 1956. Mr. Bell worked as a hyster oper ator for Hines Supply in Beaverton for 15 years, before an injury forced him to retire in the late 1980s. He had played slow pitch softball on the Holub Gutter and Cven’s Cafe teams in Banks. WILKINSON Lelia Sylvana Wilkinson, 97, Gre sham, died March 27, 1995. Grave side services were held at West lawn Memorial Park in Springfield. Mrs. Wilkinson was bom May 7, 1897, at Oelrichs, S.D., to David Alden and May Bames Pettegrew. She married Claud Wilkinson in 1918 in Corvallis. She had lived in several Oregon communities, including Vernonia, Laurelw ood-G aston and Forest Grove. Mrs. Wilkinson was a homemak er, piano teacher, tailor, writer and painter. She worked for a time at Portland Glove Factory. She was a member of the Sev enth-day Adventist Church in Forest Grove and taught Sabbath School for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977, and a daugh ter, Ruth Smith, in 1993. Survivors include a son, Roy of Beaverton; daughter Mabie Martin of Portland; three grandchildren. Remembrances may be sent to Seventh-day Adventist Church. BETTY M. BLOUNT CHAMBERS Betty May Blount Chambers, 68, Manning, died March 21, 1995, at her home. Graveside services were held March 25 at the North Cemetery of Clear Creek in Vernonia, with Pas tor DJ Dickey of Grace Reformed Baptist Church officiating. Mrs. Chambers was bom May 14, 1926 in Vernonia, to Forest and Ver na Holbrook Blount She was reared and educated in Louisiana. She m arried John Raym ond Chambers in 1944 at S t Helens. Fol lowing their marriage, they lived in North Bend until 1950 when they moved to Vernonia. She moved to Portland in 1963, then to Manning in 1976. Mrs. Chambers was preceded in death by her husband in 1961, a daughter, Victoria J. Loftis in 1972; and two sisters, Bobbie Chadwick and Susie McAdams. Survivors include two sons Lester R. of North Plains and Darrel W. of Vernonia; two brothers, Albert Blount of Tillamook and Lester Blount of Tal ent; two sisters, Marie Landsen of Portland and Odean Anderson of Beaverton; six grandchildren; several gre a t-g ra n d ch ild re n ; num erous nieces and nephews. Fuiten-Rose Chapel of Forest Grove was in charge of arrange ments. CHRISTINE E. VANDEBERG C h ristine E. Vandeberg, 89, Beaverton, died March 27, 1995, at a Beaverton nursing home. Funeral services were held March 30 at V isitation Roman Catholic Church in Verboort with the Revs. Joseph Heuberger, James Crunican, J. Patrick Moore, Plus Moore and James Harris officiating. Vault inter ment was in Visitation Cemetery. The Holy Rosary was recited March 29 at Forest Grove Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Vandeberg was born July 16, 1906, in Verboort, to Antone and Anna Marie Joosten Hermens. She attended elementary school in Ver boort, then attended St. Mary's of the Valley High School. She married Antone Vandeberg in Verboort in 1924. He died in April 1977 after more than 52 years of marriage. Mrs. Vandeberg worked in can neries, on strawberry and broccoli planters and did various sorts of field work. She did custom quilting and was a member of the Verboort Quilters. She also was a member of the Altar Society, the National Catholic Society of Foresters and the Royal Neigh bors. She and her husband had no chil dren, but they had 11 god-children, they called their own. They included Eugenia Coussens, Mildred Van Mel- tebeke, S ister Evelyn Schwall SSMO, Ignatins Evers, Lynn Moe, Janet Verboort, Norbert Krieger, Ronald Evers, Florence Herinckx, and the late Esther Seus and Marvin Hermens. S urvivors include a brother, Ernest Hermens of Banks; a sister, Mary Evers of Forest Grove; numer ous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Perpetual Care Trust Fund for Visitation Cemetery in Verboort. Forest Grove Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. JOHN D. LAMPMAN JR. John D. Lampman Jr., 34, St. He lens, died March 27, 1995, of AIDS. No service was held; disposition was by cremation. Mr. Lampman was bom July 16, 1960 in St. Helens. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked as a clerk and car rier for the U.S. Postal Service in Vernonia. Survivors include his father, John D. Sr., and sisters, Faith Breck, Jen nie Lam pm an, Tina K linger and Wendy Reiniger, all of St. Helens. Remembrances may be to the Cascade AIDS Project, 620 SW Fifth Ave., Suite 300, Portland, 97204. Columbia Funeral Home of St. Helens was in charge of arrange ments. MARY LUCILLE PEARSON Mary Lucille Pearson, 80, Port land, died March 23, 1995, of con gestive heart disease. Funeral ser vices were held March 27 in Frnley- Sunset Hills Mortuary. Interment was in Sunset Hills Memorial Park. Mrs. Pearson was bom Nov. 11, 1914, in Laurel, Miss. She had lived in the Portland area since 1963, but also lived in Vernonia and Roseburg. She married John R. Pearson in 1930. Mrs. Pearson was a housekeeper for St. Vincent Hospital and Ameri can Building. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Her husband preceded her in death in 1978. Survivors include sons, Henry D. of Tigard, Marvin D. of Gold Beach, Robert M. of Milwaukie and John W. of Yuba City, Calif.; daughters, Mary A. Sullivan of Portland, Janice L. Coxey of Woodbridge, Vir., Donnie G. Keel of Umpqua and Sidonnie R. Schultz of Clackamas; sister, Dorothy Collins of Inverness, Fla.; brother Henry A. Myrick of Baker, La.; 26 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchil dren and four great-great-grandchil dren. TWILA F. BERKHEIMER Twila F. Berkheimer, 58, Scap poose, died March 21, 1995, at her home of causes related to epilesy. Private graveside services were held March 23 in Union Point Cemetery in Banks. Miss Berkheimer was bom Aug. 16, 1936, in Hazard, Neb., to Dennis L. and Vema E. McAlevy Berkheimer. She was reared and educated in Ne braska. She was disabled all of her life and had lived with her parents in Sunnyside and Grandview, Wash., from 1950 to 1982, when she moved to Banks. At the time of her death, she was living with her sister, and survivor, Ellen Hart in Scappooso. Forest Grove Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. ALBERT A. MARTINDALE Albert A. Martindale, 89, Portland, died March 28, 1995. A memorial service was held April 8 at Harold Oliver School. Interment was in Lin coln Memorial Park. Mr. Martindale was bom April 19, 1905, in Oakley, Idaho. He married Florence Shandy in 1933, and worked as a farmer until retiring in 1972. He was a member of the World wide Church of God.
