The INDEPENDENT, March 8,1995 All Star Tree Service moves to Vernonia Vernonia acquired a new family recently, as Ron Dodge and Marilyn Gregory moved into a residence on Madison Avenue. At the same time, Vernonia also gained a new business, for Dodge will op erate his All Star Tree Service Cindernook restaurant leased out Rod and Sharon Luckasson with Kelly Schaumburg. Rod and Sharon Luckas son of Vernonia are now op erating the restaurant at The Cindernook, since taking on a lease last month. The Luckassons settled in Vernonia five years ago as newlyweds. Since then, Sha ron has worked in a few of the local restaurants and bars and Rod has done various jobs. Rod and Sharon share the d u tie s, w ith both of the m cooking, waiting tables and tending bar, as needed. A lso in the C ind erno ok kitchen is Kelly Schaumburg, who has taken on the duties of breakfast cook, from 6-11 a.m., Monday through Friday. Their menu offers “good ho m estyle c o o k in g ” along with daily specials for break fast, lunch and dinner. The re s ta u ra n t is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. It reopens at 5 p.m. for the dinner crowd, c lo s in g at 9 p.m . M onday through Thursday, and at 2 a.m. on Fridays. S aturday hours are 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. It is closed on Sundays. Ripa is new Human Resources Director D ire c to r o f H um an R e sources, a position approved last ye a r by th e C olum bia County Budget Committee, as part of a personnel reorga nization, has been filled. Jean Ripa, who has as sumed the new position, will handle all aspects of person nel, draft personnel policies and procedures, handle union grievances, workers compen sation and all employee ben efits. Ripa has also assumed the role of C hief Exam iner fo r Civil Service positions, which will enable the county to get speedier responses about job applicants. The old system was handled by a consultant from Salem and information in The INDEPENDENT'S cir culation area as well as in Portland, where his business is already established. The couple moved here to find a more relaxed life style and G regory fee ls right at home, glad to be back in her old neighborhood, which for some years was in Birken feld. Dodge, bom and raised in Portland, earned an AA de gree in applied science and left for Seattle, where he went to work for Careco, a heating, ventilation and air condition ing firm. In the meantime, he did some m oonlighting-cut ting, packaging and selling cordw ood d o o r-to -d o o r to a p artm en t d w e lle rs in his neighborhood. In this enter prise he met a man who had a tree service business, be came interested, and eventu ally became a partner. When the partnership eventually broke up, Dodge returned to Portland where he started his present business. While he will continue to commute in order to serve his established clientele in Port land, Dodge hopes soonto be able to practice his skills ex clusively in his new communi ty- All Star Tree Service offers complete tree service, includ ing precision cutting, stump grinding, tree removal, land clearing, chipping, pruning and firewood.
