The Police D epartm ent will is s u e n u is a n c e a b a te m e n t notices on a regular basis in an attem pt to im prove areas at risk. The purpose is to im p ro v e n e ig h b o rh o o d s , n o t create hardships fo r property owners. “W e hope that those prop erty o w n e rs w ho are served and have q u e stio n s o r need help, w ill c o n ta c t th e P olice D epartm ent,” W alters said. O n c e s e r v e d w ith a n abatem ent notice, the ow n e r has 14 d a y s to c o m p ly w ith th e o rd e r. F a ilu re to d o so c a n re s u lt in th e V e rn o n ia Justice C ourt im posing a fine of up to $ 5 0 0 .0 0 a d a y and e a c h d a y fo llo w in g c a n be treated as a separate offense. T h e court m ay a ls o o rd e r the City to clean up the prop erty and bill the property ow n er and/or renter.
