Gwen Milligan likes the big picture. She is the kind o ff person who subscibes to the ancient Proverb,“Where there is no vision, the people per V. At present she is the dy namic leader of a revitalized Jamboree Committee with ac tive members numbering fifty or more people from a broad spectrum of the community, Drip y your Valeptipe to prom ising the biggest and best Jamboree in many years. Her interests go beyond the F rien dsh ip Jam boree, though, for the vision em braces another elem ent of Vernonia’s renaissance. She sees the importance of the need for a community center. Again, M illigan thinks BIG. But she is also a realist. The big picture, she believes, is th e vision that can be achieved over tim e, with a comprehensive plan, as the com m unity grow s and its needs develop. Milligan doesn’t wear any kind of speedometer, but her th o u g h t pro cesse s m ove faster than she can articulate and she talks a mile a minute. In the space of about five min utes she expanded the vision to proportions that include: 1. A place for children of all ages to be safe. 2. Organization with activi ties geared to all ages. 3. A meeting place for all local organizations to plan and conduct their activities. 4. O u u utdo iu u o or r an and a indoor ma recreational activities. 5. Family programs using volunteers. 6. E ventually, it sho uld have a swimming pool, when the Rock Creek pool becomes obsolete. Ad ' V tlje yV V * Sweetheart Ball » 4 Dipper-Dapee « V ' W z 7. There should be a stage for community theater. 8. Accom odations for re c e p tio n s, fa m ily re u n io n s, dances fo r tee ns, s q u a re dancing, line dancing etc. 9. Also down the road, she believes we could have out door facilities for horeshoes, tennis, badminton and volley ball. Yes, Milligan sees the big picture, but she also puts her effort where her mouth is and invites the community to join in Vernonia's renaissance— through Vernonia Pride, Jam boree, Community Center, the Banks-Vernonia Linear park, The Recreational Council, Li ons C lub, Izaak W alton League, Boy & Girl Scouts, 4- H, Youth Summer Baseball, Vernonia Fire Dept., EMT’s and wherever your efforts are, or can, contribute to the vision without which the people and the community perish. The C om m unity C e n te r P roject Board of D ire cto rs have set a community meet ing to d is c u s s p la n s.
