Tamara Fulmer leads the way as Logger golfers improve skills
Two weeks ago, Vernonia
High School golf coach Dan
Foss could hardly wait for the
first meet in Astoria. His im
patience is understandable.
In the first meet of the sea
son, at the Country Club in
A storia , the team fa ile d to
place because of a lack of
p la y e rs , but so p h o m o re
Tamara Fulmer took an indi
vidual first out of 29 competi
tors.
The next day, Fulmer, who
plays on both the girls’ and
boys’ teams, placed second
and received a m edal in a
meet against Nestucca. Four
days later, against Scappose,
Tamara scored a 90 and re
ceived a medal, leading Ver
nonia to their first victory of
the season.
Foss fe e ls his team did
well at home, “It was a great
first win for us; we wanted to
do well at home. The team

Rain and losses dampen VHS baseball progress
A young V ernonia H igh
School baseball team is on a
dry spell, with an 0-2 record
in sp ite of the rainy A p ril

The Loggers’ first game of
the season, at Dayton, was
rained out at the top of the
second inning, with VHS be
hind 4-3. A day later, they
travelled to Neah-Kah-Nie,
losing to the Pirates by a con
vincing score of 18-0.
Senior Steve Wolf took the
loss optimistically, “We played
really hard. We need more
practice in batting and pitch
ing and then we should be a
successful team, I hope.”
With the rainy weather an
important factor on the base
ball schedule, the Loggers
took more than a week of rest
