Page 4 The INDEPENDENT, October 31, 1990 Smokeout starts with Cigarette Mash The "Cigarette Mash" is the name ot a community dance to be held Friday, November 16. ,ro m 8 1 1 p m at Vernonia High School to help promote the Great American Smoke out The Smokeout is an annual nation wide event sponsored by the American Cancer Soct ety when millions of smokers are enco uraged to spend tw enty tour hours w ithout smoking By not smoking for 24 hours, the ACS feels smokers will be encouraged to quit for a life time Quit smoking literature is available at the Vernonia Health Center The purpose ot the dance 4-H gives awards of recognition The annual 4 H Youth Recognition Night, held Oc, 17 a, S, Helens High School, was attended by more than 120 C olum bia C ounty 4 H members and their families Winners of the Intermedi ate com petition for Record Book were Jaime Harding gold Fawn Daniels, silver Jennifer Curtis, bronze Ju mor Record Book w inners were K elli Pellham , gold M ichael Bm gam an. silver.
