Bret was born June 12, 1962, in Page, Arizona. He attended elementary school in Miramonte, California, and gradu- ated from Astoria High School in Oregon in 1980. Bret served on the aircraft car- rier USS Constellation as an elec- trician’s mate for four years, fol- lowed by two years in the Navy Reserves. He married Kacy Jean Smith of San Diego, California, on Dec. 14, 1985, then moved to Astoria, Oregon. Bret worked for Sunset Empire Refuse and Recycling as a truck driver for 18 years, before being hired as a truck driver for Mesher Supply in Seaside, deliv- ering plumbing supplies along the Northern Oregon and Southern Washington coasts for 13 years. Bret was a member of the Sea- side, Oregon, post of the American Legion, as well as the local Fort Clatsop Muzzleload- ers black powder gun club. He enjoyed ski- ing, whitewater rafting, canoeing and camp- ing with his children. Bret is survived by his father, Robert E. Scott of Anacortes, Washington; his mother, Marilyn J. Wood Scott of West Linn, Ore- gon; brother Eric Scott of Yosem- ite National Park; his four chil- dren, Michelle Glick of Terre Haute, Indiana, Joe Scott of Asto- ria, Oregon, Wendy Scott of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Sean Scott of Lake Oswego, Oregon; and grand- son Riley Hussong. Bret is also survived by the mother of his three younger children, Kacy Scott of Lake Oswego, Oregon. The family plans on a pri- vate scattering of his ashes in the Pacifi c Ocean. Ralph Kresge Todd Warrenton April 11, 1929 — Aug. 29, 2019 Ralph was born April 11, 1929, in Ithaca, New York, to parents Roger and Frances (Kresge) Todd. Ralph attended Newfi eld High School, in Newfi eld, New York, and graduated in 1947. In 1948, he enlisted in the Army for six years, and served his country as a sergeant fi rst class tank commander in Straubing, Germany. He returned to the U.S. to attend Hartwick College in One- onta, New York, and graduated with a bachelor of science degree. He worked in the manufacturing industries throughout the U.S. and Canada. Ralph was employed by Tek- tronix until his retirement in 1991. From 1991 to 2012, Ralph was a consultant for the Associa- tion of Manufacturing Excellence (AME) and the Northwest High Performance Enterprise Consor- tium (NWHPEC) in Portland, Oregon. Ralph served as an AME volunteer for over 30 years, and served on numerous committees, boards and conferences, helped launch the AME Western Region and was honored in 2006 with the Mac McCulloch Lifetime Achievement Award. AME co-founder Doc Hall, in a 2006 Target magazine article commented on Todd: “He was so successful developing programs that other regions began to help set up events. Soon he became AME’s cor- porate event organizer. During the 1990s, if you went to an AME event, chances were good that Ralph helped organize it.” In addition to his work with AME, he retired from Tektronix, where he helped to adopt lean manufacturing and design for manufacturing. He also formed the Northwest High Performance Consortium (HPEC) in the Portland, Oregon, area. According to friend and colleague Phil Roether, “he loved to help others working on their excellence journey, and served as a facilitator helping groups attending the national conference. We honor Ralph’s important contribution to our organization and his dedica- tion as a volunteer.” Ralph was a member of var- ious organizations, including Astoria United Methodist Church, Astoria Golf and Country Club, Turnaround Trekkers (Volkswalk Club), Lighthouse Jazz Society and served as president of the Surf Pines Association. Ralph enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting elk and deer. Ralph is survived by his wife, Janet Johnson Boyd Todd of War- renton, Oregon; daughters Karen (David) Falvey and Denise Todd of Charlotte, North Carolina; sons Michael (Holly) Todd of West Palm Beach, Florida, Jason (Tobi) Boyd of Seaside, Oregon, and Jered (Jenni) Boyd of Olympia, Washington. He is also survived by the Todd grand- children, Kelsey (Ryan) Kehoe and Drew Falvey; and the Boyd grandchildren, Aston, Briana, Emily, Luke, Andrew, Noah, Grace, Sophia, Lucy, Katherine, Nathan and Dominic. A celebration of life service was held at Astoria United Methodist Church on Sept 8. Private burial was held on Sept. 5 at Wil- lamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Thomas Robert Wage Springfi eld July 17, 1936 — Sept. 6, 2019 Thomas Robert Wage, age 83, passed away at his home in Springfi eld, Oregon, on Friday morning, Sept. 6, 2019, after a brief illness. He was born on July 17, 1936, in Jewell, Oregon, to Arne Wage and The- resa Josephine Wage (Kelly), and he was the youngest of fi ve chil- dren. He grew up in Jewell on the family farm and attended Seaside High School. He was married to Carol Lee Hurd from 1957 to 1969; he was married to Gertrude Dinella Walker (Eggert) from 1972 to 1982; and then he married Scheryl Lynn Powers in 1996. He died one day prior to celebrating their 23rd wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife Scheryl Wage; his son Tom Wage, and his wife Julie Wage, of Sammamish, Washington; his daughter Tami Truax, and her husband Herb Truax, of Tigard, Oregon; his son Michael Wage of Eugene, Oregon; his grandsons Joseph Wage of Chicago, Illinois, and Alexander Wage of Fort Collins, Colorado; his sister Frances Scofi eld of Portland, Oregon; and his brother Bill Wage of Albany, Oregon. He is also survived by stepchildren, step-grand- children, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother Eugene Wage in 2011, and his sister Patricia Ann Moore in 2018. Most of his career, up through his late 30’s he was a logger in Oregon, Washington and Alaska, and then he drove a freight truck as an own- er-operator until he retired. He was an avid outdoors- man who greatly enjoyed hunt- ing, fi shing, boating and camp- ing. He loved dogs and cats, and he was an enthusiastic fan of Ore- gon State University Beavers athletic teams, especially baseball. Both he and his wife Scheryl enjoyed square dancing and watch- ing Green Bay Packers football games. He was known to wake up every day happy ,and with a smile on his face. He had an incred- ible memory, and we will greatly miss his possibly slightly embellished and endless stories. Pursuant to his last wishes, his body will be cremated and there will be no ser- vices. The family will have a small private memorial at a future date. Mark Eastman Mark Eastman was born October 7, 1957, in Portland, Oregon, the son of the late Larry Eastman and Winifred (Fle- skes) Eastman. He was raised and received his education in the Forest Grove community, having been a graduate of the McBride Forest Grove High School Class of 1975. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served for a cou- ple of years. He had resided in Seaside, Oregon for the past thirty years. Mark had worked as a bouncer in the entertainment industry on the coast for many years. Among his special inter- ests, Mark enjoyed music, play- ing drums, growing plants, and baseball. He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Winifred Eastman. Survivors include his son, Tuirell Eastman, of Seaside, Oregon; and his stepson James Schriner, of Seaside Oregon. Mary Lathrop Peterson Astoria Aug. 26, 1929 — Aug. 28, 2019 Mary Lathrop Peterson died surrounded by friends and family on Aug. 28, 2019, two days after her 90th birthday. Born to Robert Farmiloe Goss and Helen Lewis Shotwell Goss in Hinsdale, Illinois, she was the oldest of two girls. She held a bachelor’s degree in library science from Rockford Col- lege. In 1956 she married Har- old Robert Peterson Jr., who proceeded her in death in 2015. They were blessed with four children, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. During her lifetime, she and Harold (Bob) lived in Minnesota and West Virginia, then landing and remaining in Oregon since 1998. A career at various librar- ies did not prevent her from using her extensive abilities in organizing, leader- ship and creative fi ber arts. She led a rewarding life fulfi lled by her numerous interests, travel and a supportive spouse. She was involved in many civic and cultural organizations, including the PEO Sisterhood, Plymouth Congregational Church and the League of Women Voters.
