MARX Seaside Signal Brenna Visser/The Astorian Driver gets car stuck in Necanicum River By BRENNA VISSER The Astorian A man who was reportedly driv- ing erratically and at a high rate of speed got his car stuck in the Necanicum River estuary between Seaside and Gearhart on Sunday morning. Around 10:45 a.m., Gearhart police and fi re received a report of a Honda Accord that had driven into the river . The driver was apparently on the southern half of Gearhart’s beach, which does not permit cars. After getting stuck, t he driver was able to walk out of the car on his own. A passenger was escorted by Gearhart Fire Chief Bill Eddy through the river, which at the time PUBLIC SAFETY LOGS with a home visit. 2:48 p.m., 1100 block Third Avenue: A dog complaint is re- ported. 3:55 p.m., Seaside area: A missing person is reported. Downing: Caller reports loud music in the area. April 21 1:53 a.m., N. Prom: An intox- icated person wandering the hallway of a hotel is assisted back to their room. 1:04 p.m., 1800 block N. Roos- evelt: A man is arrested for pos- session of cocaine. 7:47 p.m., 2300 block S. Edge- wood: Female caller reports hus- band stole their car. Police advise this is a civil issue and gave the caller options. 10:10 p.m., Sunset and Ever- green: Police respond to multi- ple calls regarding fi reworks in the area. Police are unable to lo- cate where they are being set off . April 23 11:30 a.m., 1100 block Avenue B: Police assist another agency was about 3 feet deep. Gearhart police are still inves- tigating , but said the incident appears to be caused by “speed and bad decisions.” The driver and passenger were not local. Emergency personnel and the Sons of Beaches — a 4x4 club that often helps motorists who get stuck on the beach — worked to get the car out of the water. near their front door, preventing them from entering the house. April 29 April 25 May 1 7:51 a.m., 2100 block S. Frank- lin: Police contact the neigh- bor of a caller who claimed the neighbor had her crab pots and wouldn’t give them back. Two restaurants featur- ing cuisines from around the globe, each won liquor licenses at the April 22 City Council meeting. McBani, a Lebanese restaurant at 409 Broad- way, has been in Seaside at this location since 2012. Owner Randy McBoul sought a limited on-rem- ises sales license allow- ing for the sale of malt beverages, wine and cider for consumption on the premises. Angelina’s Pizza and Cafe at 1815 South Roo- sevelt Drive sought to obtain a full on-premises commercial liquor license. Elizabeth Hall of Angelina’s said she was responding to requests from guests for wine and specialty drinks. With 20 employees, she said the license was needed for an additional revenue stream to stay afl oat. She said the restaurant will keep the same hours, to 10 weekdays and 11 on Friday and Saturdays. While police due dil- igence showed “conduct issues” with some employ- ees, Angelina’s record has been “spotless” since the restaurant opened serving beer and wine last year, Mayor Jay Barber said. A March 8 incident report cited Hall for failing to put up barriers between the outside service area where alcohol is allowed and the parking lot. Det. Bill Barnes checked the barriers on April 15, which he said, while not fi nished, “suffi ce as a barrier at this time.” While it should not be considered a “repudiation” of the police department, Barber said, he and coun- cilors Tom Horning, Tita Montero, Randy Frank, Seth Morrisey and Dana Phillips voted to support the license application. Forest Grove man’s death ruled accidental Man sought for questioning By BRENNA VISSER The Astorian An autopsy from the state medical examiner determined Travis Todd, the Forest Grove man reportedly assaulted in Seaside in March, died from complications related to intoxication. On March 30, Seaside police received a report around 3 a.m. from wit- nesses staying in a home near the intersection of Avenue K and S. Colum- bia Street saying they saw Todd have a loud conver- sation and interaction with another person. The emergency call led police to initially believe a physical altercation had taken place. Todd was treated at the scene for his injuries and eventually taken to a Port- land-area hospital, where he died on April 8. T h e autopsy determined the offi cial cause of Travis Todd death was complica- tions from acute intoxica- tion that were accidental in nature. Detectives are still looking for more informa- tion about where Todd was and who he was with one to two hours after he left local bars. Investigators believe Todd was with a white male that was wear- ing dark, baggy clothing. The possible witness is believed to be in his late 20s to early 30s, approx- imately 6-feet tall, with a medium, athletic build. As previously reported, Todd may have been on the beach or walking along the Promenade prior to the incident. Anyone with informa- tion is asked to call Seaside police at 503-738-6311.
