SEASIDE HIGH SCHOOL — CLASS OF 2018 DAY CPM Proposed rendering of the new district high- and middle-school building. Construction is scheduled to begin this month for the campus, slated for a September 2020 debut. A year of milestones for Seaside grads The class of 2018 cel- ebrates graduation at the Seaside Civic and Conven- tion Center this month. Principal Jeff Roberts re- flected on the achievements — and the promise — of the class. “This is a great group of young people that have worked tremendously hard to provide themselves varied opportunities as they move on to the next chapter in their lives,” Roberts said. “Our group of musicians, athletes, thespians, business leaders, scientists, poets, carpenters, chefs and mathematicians will inevitably have a posi- tive impact on our communi- ty and world.” Their awareness, input and enthusiasm in looking toward future generations was a deciding factor in the 2015 bond for the new cam- pus in the Southeast Hills, scheduled for a fall 2020 opening. The “Don’t Catch this Wave” campaign raised awareness in the community and throughout the country. In March, when tragedy hit Margery Stoneman High School in Parkland, Flori- da, Seaside students joined young people throughout the nation with a remembrance of student lives lost. The same month, Sea- side boys basketball won its second Class 4A state cham- pionship, what sportswriter Gary Henley called “an un- der-sized team winning over- sized games.” Seaside School Dis- trict Superintendent Sheila Roley offered this assess- ment: “The class of 2018 is comfortable with fol- lowing their own passions. There are students who are front and center singing and dancing in the spring musi- cal and on another day fully decked out in football gear. They can make a strong and impassioned political state- ment and be committed to kindness toward those who disagree with them. They are not afraid to be who they are, showing a lifetime strength I am confident they will call forward with them into the next step in their lives.” CONGRATS SENIORS!
