Joe Baumgartner of Banks and Astoria’s Glen Fromwill- er shared the Coach of the Year honors. Five catchers in the six- team league were named all- league, and Seaside junior Alex Teubner was one of three catchers on the first team. He was joined by junior team- mate Payton Westerholm, a first-team shortstop/pitcher. Other Gulls earning all- league status were senior out- fielder Astor Landwehr and sophomore pitcher Brayden Johnson, both selected honor- able mention. Rainier junior Taleah King was named Player of the Year, to go with nine of her teammates who joined King on the all-league team (six first-team, four second-team). Rainier’s Jim Knox was se- lected as the Coach of the Year, as the Columbians came up short in the 3A state cham- pionship game to Dayton, which defeated Rainier 3-2 Saturday. Clatskanie finished second behind Rainier in the league standings, and lost to Dayton in the state semifinals. The Ti- gers had seven players named all-league, including three freshmen on the first team. Warrenton finished third in the league standings and had five players on the all-league team, including senior pitcher Niqui Blodgett and sopho- more outfielder Kenz Ramsey on the first team. Register by June 20 for SEPRD triathlon SUNSET EMPIRE PARK AND RECREATION DISTRICT Swimming is one leg of the triathlon event. The Sunset Empire Park and Recre- ation District will host a fun family activi- ty to kick this summer off. A family triathlon including swimming, biking, and running will be held Saturday, June 23, and starts at Sunset Pool at 10 a.m., ending with a barbecue at Broadway Field. Cost is $8 per individual and $32 maximum per family. Race distance for swimming is 75 yards, biking is three miles and running is three-quarters of a mile. Packets can be picked up at Sunset Pool from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 22, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on June 23. Participants must preregister by June 20. Sunset Pool is located at 1140 Broad- way.
