Official Newspaper of Klamath County KLAMATH MI I ■ VOL. XI. Arrangement Pinaliy Reached That Is Satisfactory To All NEW DEAL IN TRANSPORTATION The dove of peace once more flies over the camp of the transportation com panies as a result of the conference held in San Francisco last week. No official statement has as yet been issued, and only indefinite information is volun teered, but it may be stated positively that the following will be the program : Tile passenger traffic will tie divided between the Oregon stage company ami a new corporation that is to lie organ ized out of the Navigation company, and in which IV. R. Davis will be in control. Thia company will have the boat end of the proposition. If the stage company buy* the equipment of the Lakeshore stage company, then it will have no competitor in the field, but if not, then there will lie a stage line from both Po kegam» and Grass Lake. The Cali- fornia-Northeastern is not going to be left out in the cold, for Davis has adopted that child ami is not going to disown it. The freighting part of it is to be taken care of by General Manager Abbott and Capt. McIntire. These gentlemen will practically have control of the Klamath Lake railroad ami will forward all freight direct to this city. This w ill not shut out the Klamath Falls and Pokeg- atna Transfer Co., but freight turned over to this company may lie assessed with forwarding charges the same as is charged at Ager. Until the California-Northeastern is built a little closer there will lie no staging from that point. Al) passenger and freight traffic will center st Teter’s Landing and come by lioat to this city. Merrill will have a boat service from this point. EXCHANGES [Lakeview Examiner] The bazaar given last Friday evening for the benefit of the public library and free reading room, was one of the grand est financial successes ever coming from a like event in the town. Everything worked out just as intended, w ithout a hitch, and the proceeds amounted to $300, beyond all expectations. The ex penses of the affair amounted to $21.50, which sum V. L. Snelling raised the next day by means of a subscription paper, so that the net receipts would be an even $.’«K>, ami succeeded in raising $3 over the amount. J. B. A uteri, partner of W. B. [Bonanza Bulletin] In response to the call for a meeting of the people of this city for the purpose of taking steps toward the organization of a Chamber of Commerce here, a number of our citizens met at Bauman’s hall last Monday evening and after dis cussing matters pro and con, Capt. O. C. Applegate, who was present from Yainix, addressed the people as to the necessity of co-operation, in a few well pointed and impressive remarks. At the close of the captain’s talk, it was move«! and unanimously adopted that the chair appoint a committee of three to draft resolutions and plans for the permanent organization of a Chamber of Commerce, whereupon the Chair ap- I "I mil bm MM■■HMMBMMMW«MiMMaMMWIWMMMIMMMM■«■■M KLAMATH FALLS, KLAMATH COUNTY, OREGON, FEBRUARY 21, 1907. NEW COMPANY IN THE FIELD A Coalition of all Forces That Is Going To Result In the Elimination of a Rate War This Summer II II I ■ REPUBLICAN, j STATEMENT OF THE ELECTRIC LIGHTS PUBLC LIBRARY FOR MIDLAND I he Light and Water Company Will Splendid Showing of This Worthy Enter That Field Institution It is practically certain that Midland will have electric lights and telephones within a very short time. When man ager Gates of the Light ami Water com pany was seen in regard to the matter he stated that bis company would run a wire from this city to Midland for the purpose of supplying that city with electricity. He was not in a position to state just when this service would be inaugurated, but said that it would be in the near futurt. When questioned ab >nt telephone connections he said that service in this respect would also be supplied. It has not as yet been definitely settled wheth er the wire would be run down the right of way of the railroad, but this is now under consideration, and as soon as a decision is reached on this proposition, work will tiegin. It is the purpose of the Light and Water company to supply residents be tween this city and Midland with elec tricity both for domestic and power use. The water question is a serious one for the town of Millland, but steps are being taken to solve this, and an early solution of the problem is promised. There is only one spring near the town that has sufficient flow to be considered, but the owner refuses to either lease or sell unless given certain concessions that the promoters of the town are not willing to grant. it is understood, however, that tests have been made that convinces those interested in the matter that absolutely pure water can be se cured by driving points, and this is the method that will probably l»e employed. Power for the operation of the pumping plant will be supplied by an electric motor.
