Surface Rock That does $15 Per Ton Causes a Big Rush to File On Claims Near Towu. Considerable excitement and no small amount of interest is being manifested in the discovery recently of valuable quartz rock, and twenty or more claims have been filed in the Clerk's office tn the last week. The locations run al) the way from Ham- mersiy Canyon, two miles from Lake view, to Salt Creek, over eight miles distant and the same ledge ap- paroutly crops out between these points. James E. Hughes, a mining expert of Fresno, Cal., upon the recommen dation of J. M. AA'eisner, came here a month ago and was so favorably impressed with the rock that lie im mediately tiled a claim alongside of AVeisner's in Sec. 36, Tp. 38 S. R. 20 E. They took out samples of rock and forwarded it to the Nevada Assa Office and Chemical Labratory of Taylor & Frazer at Reno, Nevada. The assay (No. 3555) came back last week and was very flattering to the promoters, as the following show: to make final proof in support of his claim, and that said proof will b»‘ made before the Register a Q Receiver at Lakeview, Oregon, on October In, 1908. viz: MOS EM JAMF.M »1 K No. W2 l for the E*u of SE«4.
