March 26 W)' Deputy sheriffs found the bodies last night of Mr. and Mrs. Har-; old Doty, missing Portland ar-i chitect and his wife, in an auto mobile In the Portland west hills. They had been objects of a search since March 13. Deputy Coroner C. E. Shea said death apparently was due to asphyxiation. The bodies were in the front seat of a closed sedan and Shea said a hose had been attached to the exhaust pipe, diverting the fumea to the interior ot the ve hicle. The aperture at the top of the window through which the hose entered the car had been atuffed to make the com. psrtment almost airtight. Shea said. Doty, a well known local ar chitect and a former president of the Oregon chapter of American Institute of Architects, had been missing with his wife since March 6, Almee Gorham, sister of Mrs. Doty, said. She recruited the police In a search on March 13. Shea said circumstances indi cated a suicide pact. Doty, he added, had been 111 for some time and he and his wlfa were devoted to each other. Mrs. Doty was tha daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Spen cer of Portland and was gradu ated from the University of Ore gon. Three sisters, including Mrs. Gene S. Herron of Eugene, survive.
