A PROPHKT OF DOOM r T la a little reassuring, some how, to read that a London business man is going about the British Isles trying to convince people that the world ia going to come to an end on June II. These dire prophecies of doom always appear in troublous times; to bear this one is to realise that our present diffi culties will eventually get aolved. Just as past ones were. This Londoner is said to be spending 15000 a week on his self-appointed mission he is. It should be added, a wealthy chap. He has made hundreda of converts, many of whom are rapidly giving away all they own in order to be ready for the great day. It might be possible, of course, to read an unpleasant omen into the fact that the date this man has chosen for the end ot all things is also the date on which the world economic conference la to convene. It that confer ence falls, the prophecy might come uncomfortably close to ful fillment. The chamber of commerce has received a telegram from Snow'a Dog and Pony show, which Is a. Red Bluff, in reference to allow ing here on Railroad Day. The show hss two csrs. with 60 peo ple and a band. The clrcua would be a great attraction, and would be a great addition to the parade. In a tew days more we will be paying alx cents, for the legislature added another cent to the gaa tax when It re duced automobile licenses. The federal government Is talking of adding three-quarters of a cent more. It that is done, the total tax on gasoline here In Oregon will be six and three- quarters cents per gallon.
