Mr. Ambrose entered the war as a prirate in the Marine corps. He was stationed In the tropica for ome time and was then on a sub chaser around South Amer ica. (CP) A parade of death, with a mob of 3.000 men, women and children trailing In its wake, started from the county court house here today and ended at a little rural achoclhouse where a JO-year-oM negro was burned alive. Raymond Gunn, the ne:ro, paid with his life at the place where he assaulted and murdered Velma Colter, a 19-year-old white school teacher. He was chained to the roof of the frame school houM while a group of men light ed Its oil-soaked timbers. He shrieked but once as the flames ate their way to the roof and sur rounded him. The mob looked on in silence. Gunn had been taken from cus tody of Sheriff Harve England when the officer and three depu ties attempted to transfer the prisoner from the county jail to the courthouse for arraignment on the charge. The officers were overpowered and their prirvner was seized. Tho mob was orderlv and work ed with precision. No hnts were tired. The uin wremhed Gunn from the handcuffs whLn held fcmi to srieriif Encland. A 10-foot chain was placed around Gunn's nevk. He was stripped to the waist. Then the march to the school house where Velma Coulter had taught was started. From every store and farm house, persons joined the proces sion.
