Steadfast Church ' Work Brings Its Building Reward On of the most notable additions 1 to the building program of Klamath ' ' Falls In the past twelve months has ' been the construction of the new Christian church. Begun by a hand ' ful ot ateadfast church workers in 13!0. the splendid ' bnilding that stands today at Ninth and Pine ' streets is a monument to the cour . age snd energy of a comparatively ' small group of Christian people who ''have never wavered In the fulfill ' ment ot the ideal of a worthy 1 church building tor their denomina tion in this city. A building com mittee composed of Dr. O. A. Mas ' sey. R. H. Dunbar snd J. T. McCol-i ' lum has been largely responsible ' for the planning of the church and 1 for the active work ot carrying on ' the construction. J.' T. McCollnm ' was the contractor directly In charge - of the work done, though in con stant consultation with the other ' : members of the bnilding committee. .- Six years ago the members ' of i the Christian church built the foun ' dstion, which was roofed over tem- J ' porartly and used' until 1925 as jtenTBorary gust ten tbr thff hblttlhg of services, at which time ft was de ' cided to go ahead with the eonstruc - ' tion of the main part of the build- ' ing. The general architecture' is ' 1 similar to that used by the denom- ' ination elsewhere, being a generous slxed building of rather square as ' pact, with a round dome. Construc- 1 tion is of wood and white Hoffite ; stucco, the latter being a patent of ' great durability and excellent ap- f uearance. The atucco fa Dlaced over ; : American National steel fabric, rein-, forced in and out, and is of water- proof nature. .. . 5 The building is rated as Class B ' by insurance officers, according to ' J. T. MeCollum, and so is consid ered aa nearly fireproof as a build '. ing with wood framing can be. ine mam auditorium will seau seven hundred and fifty people. -. Opera chairs of a massive and heavy ' characters are being provided. The . choir chairs are to be unholstered with leather. A Sunday school au ditorium, opening into the main auditorium in such a' way aa to pro vide seating space for two hundred and titty people in case of emer gency, haa been provided. Wall trimmings and paneling ia ot Doug las fir, finished in such a war as to be comparable in appearance and beauty to golden oak. A ladles' par lor opening into the main auditor ium further increases the emergency capacity of the auditorium by a hundred.' while providing a comfort able place in which women's organi zations may meet. '' A pipe organ la now being install ed, and is "to be ready the first Sunday In May. It is manufactured by the Sherman Clay company and Is being Installed by George Wirts. Its cost Is In the neighborhood of five thousand dollars, the total cost of' the whole church being about flffv-fTve thousand dollars., " The oasement Includes a large banquet and recreation room. In ad dition to a kitchen and heating rooms. Altogether, the Christian church stands as an excellent ex ample of modern church architec- ture, of which its members and the city can well be proud. . , ICEWATER COOLS KAXSAS CITY, Mp.. April 20.
