OFFICIAL PAPER FOR OTIT? TZT A Tf A TH Fi A TT ,V NRWS CITY OF KLAMATH t-ALLo , Jf .... r . ... , s... or p ... -,V 4 Independent Republican Kevspaptr conauewa m " "Let ua have faith that right trinket might, and in that faith let ui to the end dare to do our duty a we understand it." Abraham Lincoln. Drop Hy Drop! A Curse a.id a Smile. There din Be So Blinking Progress Citizens of Klamath Falls have arisen to a humane consideration the necessity for the construction of an adequate isolation hospital. While the ejection from a hospital of a boy afflicted with an infectious disease, and forc ing the boy back into a three-room dwelling containing eight children and a sick mother, together with the necessity of placing some of the other children out in a barn, was necessary to force action, the city has been aroused. The need indicated, lack of action now would be nothing short of criminal. Under the state lavs- the city is held responsible for main taining an isolation hospital. It has lived with in the law by keeping a disreputable fire trap that should have been burned long ago. There are those who profess to see a railroad plot in the endeavor of health authorities to establish nn isolation hospital, but these objectors are pathetic specimens of humanity. Klamath Falls has outgrown swaddling clothes. There are more worthy endeavors that must be recognized than the establishing of squatter rights or the town is eternally and ever to have a black eye. The town has in years past been damned by the self-seeking, plundering few who are without moral con science or any semblance of civic pride. But it now proposes to become a city. And it will. The type of individual who will send out a story such as appeared in an Ashland pa per to the erfecet that "Typhoid Hits Klam ath; Bad Sewers Cause," knowing it to be utterly false and that there is not a single case of typhoid in Klamath, is the same individual who will object to constructive plans for the establishment of an isolation hospital for the care of the sick. But there are individuals who can rise to an occasion. They help take the curse off the situation, make you smile and begin again to believe in the things that are. "Doc" Powell, city councilman, yesterday pledged his private resources to the extent of $2500 as a loan to the city towards immediate action on an isolation hospital. The cash is in the bank ready to be used. Someone must be found to come forward with the purchase price of a lot in a suitable location. On it the necessary unit of isolation buildings can be erected. These private citizens can be assured that they will be reimbursed by the city council. An item for the erection of the isolation hos pital is to be included in the bond issue. Funds from that source will be ready sometime next year. It is too long to wait. Action is needed. There are too manv .j Falls can use a little dodging into the wal black eyes. Klamath headwork, other than lops. t A Tf TtiuU y uir,,isi"iT Nf vjl SMAit HOI ' j JJ TIOII J-WlIM'li' THE TEN ii . All of us have to learn it In some manner. i Host of u know what a pleas- I ure it Is to meet a person who Is HEAL without pretentions, without affectations: yet few of j us ver allow ourselves to ap pear to others as we really nro. All the aamo. In the end, we don't fool anybody but ourselves. To affect a quality, and to plume yourself upon It, is Just to confess that you hare not got It. There U a maxim attributed to Napoleon. "Evcrythlnif that is un natural In Imperfect." It Is a rule of universal ap plication. And whether It Is courage, or learning, or Intellect, or wit, or "a way with women," or riches, or social position, or whatever else It moy bo that a man or a woman boasts of, you may con clude that this Is precisely the direction In which ho or !ihe Is rather weak. , Kor if any person iinpspixici any faculty to the full, It will not occur to him to make a great show of affecting It; ho Is quite content to know that ho has It.
