school support haa remained about
the same, was the high light brought
out In a report read before the Ro-
lary club yesterday noon by C. H.
Underwood for seven year, chairman
of the board of school district No. 1.
Six years ago school district No. 1
of Klamath county, possessed only
two school buildings of any conse
quence, these being at Central and
Riverside. In addition to these the
district owned a small two-room
frame building on property belong
ing to the Pelican Bay Lumber com
pany near Pelican City. The pupils
living In Mills addition were housed
in three rented rooms In the old
Mills addition hall. -
School opened In the fall of 1819
with an enrollment of 720 pupila in
twenty-one class rooms. At present
we are employing forty class-room
teachers, and the enrollment totals
1353. alt may be seen from these
figures that our schools have almost
doubled during the last six years,
and by far the largest portion of
this Increase ho come during the
laat two years.
Mills School Built
In the summer and fall of 1919
a new brick school was built In
Mill addition at a ot-at, approxlr
mately ?15,000 and the pupils were
moved from their very Inadequate
quarters In the old Mills addition
hall to this modern new school, very
much to their gratification, and the
gratification of all the people of that
section of the city, as well aa the
members of the school board.
In 'the summer and fall of 1929,
another modern school was built in
Falrriew addition at a cost of 523.
577.26 for the building, and $..000
for the site, to relieve the over
crowded condition at Central school.
Prior to the completion of this
school, five class-rooms had been
housed for several months in the
Main street court house, which at
that time was under litigation, and
not being used as a court house.
The next year a modern school
was built near Pelican City at a

failure In two day in Denver was

day by Bishop Frank Rice of the
