I'lcked to lone by at leant two touchdown", the plucky Cougars led by. II, Meeker, brilliant 142-pound quarterback, fought the highly tout ed Trojuns to a virtual atandntlll. From the spectators' viewpoint. It waa one of the moat exciting gamca In tho local atadlum thla season. Waahington Stale led at half time, 10 to 6, and the Trojana were lead ing 12 to 10 at the end of the third porlod. A touchdown on a bril liant forward paaa. Sweet to Park hlll, who rared 25 yarda after grab bing the loan, gave the Cougara vic tory ahortly beforo the game ended. The battle opened with a thrill when Waldorf grabbed a perfect toss on tho aecond play and galloped 48 yarda through the Trojun team for a touchdown. It waa the flrat touch down the Cougara had ecored In a conference game thla season. The Waahington team ecored again In the aecond period on a per fect placement kick by Meeker from the 30-yard lino. Klllotl and Lnrrauotta acorcd touchdowna for U. S. ('. In the sec ond and third periods, Drury failing to kick goal on each occasion. The Callfornlans played erratic football. They made costly fumbles time and again, and their offensive. which daxxled the powerful Iowa toam a week ago, at times was poworlea.' " Again "In ' spuria they would march straight down the field, only to fumble or lose the ball MICKEY GIBBONS Y-: hm m W m ;4i DEPINTO IS OUT TO HARD BATTLE Little Italian Saya He is Not Travelling to Get "Can" Knocked Off on downa In the shadow of their opponents' goal; Little H. Meeker was the Bensa tion of the game. The diminutive quarterback out-generalled Kaer of tho Trojana, and figured for large Individual gains on many of the plays. He furnished the spectators with the biggest thrill of the day when he received a kick on his own goal line and squirmed his way through the entire Trojan eleven to Wash ington 8tate's 46 yard line before he was downed. Tbcra was but one man between him and a touchdown when he was tackled. Try a News Class Ad. "Well, It's this way, brother. I'm not coming all the way to Klamath Falls to have some guy tear my 'can' off and go away with a repu tation that looks like a piece of torn cabbago, you can take that from me." . This la the way Mike De Pinto spoke regarding his coming match with Billy Watson, the Eureka flash, who several, months ago sort of hung It on Mike, when discussing the chances for their match to be held hore on Tuesday, December 1, in 8candla hall. Yesterday Mike horned into town and although be tried to make It appear as If he was careless, a close observer noted that be didn't lose any time In getting down to the arena and taking off his diamond stud to swap the same for a pair of boxing gloves. All of which means that Mike Is not so sure of himself that he Is going to lay off getting down to shape. He says he has been In good shape while on the coast. He has, or at least he looks It, but what Matchmaker Johnnie Sylvester grin ned about, was the way Mike went Into the training aa soon aa be arrived here. This does not mean that Mike Is not in good trim.- It means that he Is not going to give Billy Watson a chance to hang a decision on him, If work will stop It. So the matchmaker grins and the sports writers go away from the hall whistling, for if there is anything a sports writer loves it Is to predict a good bout coming up, and see the boxers dolag their test to make It so. As to Mickey Gibbons. It Is enough for Matchmaker Sylvester to come right out boldly and say: "Go to It as far as that boy is concerned. I'm all for him." Mickey will go, Johnnie knows It, and for this Chuck Sams Is due for the battle of his young career. If not Chuck Is a whole lot better than some think he In. All of which wouldn't be bad news either, but the dope Is that the fast Mickey Is going to make him step as he never did before In his life. In the above yon have the doable head-liners. For the rest there Is Sid Herbert of Klamath Falls, and Kid Clark of Portland, and Ed Mc Donald of California and Young Thomas of Portland, who are to make np the rest of the card. The referee will be" announced on Monday.
