Knight Motor Wins
Endurance Contest
In a contest just conducted by
the Motordrome National, in Paris,
a Knight motor won on every point,
Including continuous power develop
ment, motor cooling, mechanical ef
ficiency and freedom from wear.
The test called for 240 hours of
continuous running at maximum
horsepower, with no adjustments al
lowed during the entlro poriod
Practically every type of gasoline
motor built at the present time was
represented, and the findings of the
test were to help the French govern
ment determine the most efficient
and rllnble type of motor to use in
aeroplane construction.
The search was for lighter,
stmnKer. fnstrr power plants, with
increavd liftlnit power, find with
dfmotisuatid
ability to stnnd up
under the most gruelling service.
The motors were bolted to heavy

dynamometer, which gave an accur-

on the moving parts, or sheer In

inal entrants were still running.
At the end of the ten days, the
superiority of the Knight motor was
ao convincingly demonstrated thut
there was no doubt in 'the mlndu of
the engineers who hod watched the
enllro test.
For tha full 240 hours, the Knight
motor steadily delivered its full 850
horsepower without a fluctuation In
the Indicating dial. At the end of
the run It was shutioff. Then, with
out adjustments of any kind, was
immediately started fcKaln, and when
J the throttle woe opened up, It show
;ed the full 550 horsepower without
i the slightest sign that It has been
deteriorated In the slightest by the
run.
