For the first time In the annals of athletic history of Klamath county a Portland team will play on he local gridiron. ' Word was received this week by Principal Paul Jackson, from the coach of Benson Polytechntcal school of Portland, asking for a game In Klamath Falls on Thanks giving day. The game has been ac cepted, and since that time the boys have been put through (tiff train ing to get them back in football trim from which they were released sev eral weeks ago. The gamo will be called promptly at one o'clock in order to give others a chance to enjoy their Thanksgiving dinner at the usual afternoon hour. Benson Poly,, as she ts called in Portland league circles, rates fourth among the eight high schools of Portland, and is placed In the .500 column. She sports exceptionally good athletic equipment and her student body funds are in such con dition that she is able to make the southern trip without a definite guarantee. ' Benson's cen" - is rated as an all-star man in Portland circles. Scheffer of Medford will referee the game, Ed Clark of Klamath Falls will umpire, and H. J. Ken drickson of Merrill, head linesman. The general admission charge to the game will be titty cents, sponsor tickets will be recognized, and stu dents with their student body tick ets will be admitted for fifteen cents, as well as grade schools. Walker Is Backed To Retain Title NEWARK, N. J., Nov. 24. Odds of 2 to 1 are being offered that Mickey Walker Tetains his world's welterweight thle in his 12 round bout with Sailor Friedman cf Phil adelphia here Wednesday night. Although the sailor's science and rugged ring craft are being touted, Friedman would, have to put tho champion away, or be indisputably foaled before he could win, for decision bouts are sot permitted here. A knockout by Walker would spoil the chances of a return bout over the 15 round route to a deci sion. Both boxers have completed training and are taking matters easy. .They weigh in Wednesday. Railway Fares Are Cut for Holidays . A holiday excursion rate for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Tears is jointly announced by the railroads. The round trip rate will be one and one-third, the regular one way fare, where the one way fare does not exceed 1 30. The Thanksgiving rate will be in effect on tickets sold November 24 to 26 and have a return limit to Decern ber 1. . f'arloadiiig Show Prosperity Railroad freight car loadings for the first 42 weeks of 1925 have beon ; the. greatest of any corresponding : period on record. Indicating genoral prosperity over the country. This enormous traffic has been handled with fine efficiency by the railroads. The net operating income of all the class I roads for the first eight months of 1925 represented a return of 4.65 per cent on I'-ie property in vestment. Western carriers earned a return of 3.62. Stabilizing Railroad Kmployment Stabilizing of railroad employment has been occupying a great deal of attention by railroad executives. Success along thin line will be help ful in stabilizing general prosperity. In 1923 the low point of employ ment was 1,779,516 employes In January, and the high point was In August with 1,973,605 employes, the maximum variation for 1923 being 1(3,989 employes. In 1924 this fluctatlon was reduced to 86.917 employes.
