AN INDEPENDENT REPUBLICAN NEWSPAPER "Let u have faith that thai faith let o to the end understand it." Abraham A Significant Asset Prize Cattle for Klamath County Within the past few days the firm' of J. B. Cornett & Son arrived in Klamath county with a herd of pure bred cattle. This herd repre sents about twenty-five years of study, care ful choosing as to adaptability to climate, pro duction and ceaseless watching. In the herd are such animals as Rusper Sultan, being a son of a bull of the same name, a grand champion of the shorthorns of Scot land. Other bulls in the herd include Minor ity's Welcome, Clifton King, Lebanon Chief, Divide Ensign and Hercules Master. All of which speaks well for the herd and factors in which the district may well be proud. The immigration of pure bred cattle is always a decided asset to any country, due to the demand created for beef from such in markets throughout the country. But one of the most significant features of the arrival of this herd lies in the fact that Klamath county was chosen for its home after a protracted study of locations in the Wil lamette valley. A careful examination of the country here brought the conclusion that Klamath county was an ideal spot for develop ment of the beef industry. The arrival of the 'herd here seems to indicate cattld breeding is' not to be listed among waning assets, but rather to be taking a firmer hold. Congratulations More Progress for Prosperous growth of other newspapers in southern Oregon is indicated in an eighteen page special edition of the Ashland Daily Tid ings, published to celebrate the installation of a new Goes press, and as usual to advertise Ashland's glorious climate. 'The special of the Tidings indicates some dissension as to just what i3 the basis of Ash land's wonderful growth and prosperity. While the climate is emphasized, a banner line heading one of the three six-page sections, says: "Fruit Industry Is Basis for Ashland Prosperity." Again it seems to be the char acter of Ashland's citizenry, a staunch band who believe in their community, know that it is a good place to live, and who want nothing better in life than to stay there. The Tidings is to be congratulated for so impartially and effectively presenting all of Ashland's good points. A good newspaper reflects the character of a community, and The Tidings reflects all that is good. Everything must have a beginning. Per haps people could be persuaded to obey the laws on Tuesdays and Fridays. : o : Ad oldtimer is one. who can remember when an endowment was more essential than a coach. In the recent record breaking stock transactions on Wall street the bulls built up a house of cards which the bears have pushed down, clear down Into the cellar. Of course It fell on the necks and pocketbooks of the little fellows and broke them. This winter they will not be bears, but bares. True, lie did not put II that broadly. He mere ly mid nil newspapermen were psychopaths, but It meant about I he same thing. And this state ment was made before a huge auditorium of people. A newspaperman was sitting down In front Just under the ros trum. He felt called upon to stand up. face the crowd and muke a sweeping bow. That won the crowd to applausa and for five minutes the show was stopped for the psychologist. The secret of why nowspnpers are what they are, and no better, Is now out. Hut that la Just one of the reasons why some news papers are better than others. And It la the reason why so tew newspapers approach the Ideal, everything depends on the liis-o who publishes them and the men who work under him. and the whole staff of a newspaper Is composed of very human, human beings. On most good newspapers there Is a constant strain of each mem ber of the ataff toward creation ' of the Ideal paper.
