J THE KLAMATH DAILY- NEWS rgS , ' " 1 hi. u,,. i t i I II wt n rr I " AN INDEPENDENT REPUBLICAN NEWSPAPER "Let ni h faith that that faith let us to the end understand it." Abraham Where Friendship Ceases Coed -Mjii Q::c:tionMe Company One of the mysteries of the irrigation elec tion campaign is the un-understandable rea sons that induced R. C. ("Lum") Short to lend his name to the Bradbury ticket. Mr. Short is held in high esteem by his neighbors and they shake their heads at the questionable company he is keeping. It is difficult to reconcile your personal friend as associated with a pernicious gang fwho have bludgeoned public servants into un burdenir.g their tax load on your back. That is exactly what happened when Mr. Eberlein procured the signature of Bradbury to the no- . toricus order, directing the sheriff to forget five years accumulation of taxes, totaling $2,000 on the Enterprise Land and Investment company. This shameful order, the existence of which was first branded as a lie in one end of the county by the Eberlein-controlled news paper, and now weakly explained, is the price Bradbury paid for 'the support of Eberlein's newspaper.' rfc 3fc Jfi The inability "of J. L. Jacob, incumbent di rector and candidate for re-election, to cope with the grasping crowd now manipulating Jthe. irrigation board is .well, .known. He has even participated in the orgy of wasteful ex penditure, and has disappointed his friends. The worst thing that could happen to "Lum" Short is that he should be elected to sit on that irrigation district board with Bradbury and Jacob. These two have already been proven false to the great body of farmer water users, and as ready to serve their masters. "Lum'' Short could only sit impotently by and be judged with them. ' If "Lum" Short is sincere in any desire to promote the best welfare of this community his friends and neighbors believe he can best serve by refusing further to lend his name to the iniquitous few who are stigmatizing the reputation of Klamath county far and wide over the country. And this is the earnest ex pression of his friends who will be forced to cast their ballots against him if he does not retire. Lumbej Sets Example The lumber industry has made great pro gress in eliminating an excessive variety of sizes and grades from its cut. This year more than 90 per cent of the soft woods moved from the mills will be cut according to American lumber standards and it is estimated the sav ings will aggregate $200,000,000. In connection with its fire prevention work in forest3, it is setting a healthy example for many other industries from the standpoint of thrift, utilization and protection of resources. o Every tennis player should learn to leap high enough to make a good picture for the rotogravure section. right make might, and In dare to do our duty at we Lincoln.
