AN INDEPENDENT REPUBLICAN NEWSPAPER . v v -m mmvMv . . & u rvi a li t" a i THE KLAMATH in-cvvq Saturday "Let tu have faith that rich! makes might, and in that faith let tu to the end dare to do our duty at we understand it." Abraham Lincoln. Thus Spoke the Good God Mars Observance of League Pact Brings Tragedy Almost following immediately on the heels of peace treaties, subsequent to termina tion of the World war, comes news that a Bul garian town is burning as a result of an artil lery bombardment from neighboring troops of Greece. Bulgaria was one of the countries enter ing the conference of diplomats having to do with those same peace treaties. Bulgaria's plaint now is that by reason of her military forces being disarmed by the peace pacts, she is not able to defend herself against armed aggrc:::on from across the border. In complying with the terms of the treaty and disarming, Bulgaria looked for protection in time of stress frem the allied powers, party to the same cover, ants. Instead she got shells from enemy artiiiery. While it is true that the league of nations claims to have v.r.rded off another Balkan war, and that the council has been summoned to meet in Paris to arrange settlements, the fact still remains that four days of bloodshed, death and destruction raged along the Mace donian frontier before effective pressure could be brought to bear to stop it. The league may pride itself on the fact that cessation of hostilities came about before a formal declaration of war was given birth, but stopping the warring faction cannot give back the lives of victims, nor allay the grief and suffering of surviving relatives. Whatever the grievance which caused the outbreak may be, or which country was right, and which wrong, seems insignificant along side of the obvious conclusion that something in the league's control seems to lack the power to stop artillerymen from pulling the firing string, if they feel like doing so. Tr.z petition, in stituted by the Mr.con Cabinet Works against the Southern Box and Basket company, for damages of $17,000, is of particular interest for the reason tha": insurance companies and officials and citizens of Macon are working in conjunction to reduce the normal burning ration of Macon. . Mass meetings of civic bodies arid citizens have been held to correct conditions that will result in increasing insurance rates if not abated, and the city courts are invoking fire hazard laws and assessing heavy finc3 for their violation. Our chamber of commerce has appointed a committee to interest and induce new Industries to come to Klamath. Maybe that movement haa been launched on behalf of our numerous billiard parlor habitues. 423 MAIN STRLX TO SERVE YOU IN KLAMATH FAL1 We now have two Stores and two Market i n Klamath Fall.
