AN INDEPENDENT REPUBLICAN NEWSPAPER . -m. TTTtTn L'l AMATl-I FAI i e THE KLAMATH DAILY JNJJVvaocroa . t "Let o hare faith that rifht make mi(b.t, and in that faith let 01 to the end dare to do oar duty a we understand it" Abraham Lincoln. Harirxr.v i 1 the Council Smith's EUcticr. Axures Corporation With Klamath Falls, believed by many of her most conservative and authoritive citi zens, to be cn the verge of an era of prosper ity unequalled in the histcry of the city, it be hooves these responsible for cur governing bedy, the city council, to s.-e to it in the forth coming election to fill the second ward vac ancy, that they choose carefully and with due thought to the responsibility which rests upon their shoulders as voters. '. . At this time it is particularly essential that harmcny prevail in the councilmanic cham bers It is believed the election of O. A. Smith, Klamath Falls business man and tax payer, will insure harmony among the councilmen. According to popular belief, Mayor God dard is not friendly to Smith, as a councilor for the second ward seat. The mayor, accord ing to reports on the street, seeks to enfold be neath hi3 political wing one "Doc" Powell, well known in the city, but by a large percen tage of the business men and citizens who have the best interests of the city at heart, as a man far less capable, from the viewpoint of executive ability! than Smith. 1 During the past several days an effort has "Seen made to becloud the issue of the city elec tion by thrusting forward the recent railway issue viewpoints of various citizens. The rail way question has passed out of the hands of local people, and it is silly and vicious to at tempt to deceive the voters, because designing politicians are relying cn public lack of infor mation to get their falsehoods across. It has not been stated which "courthouse" Smith favors. This much is sure: The addition of Smith to the council will assure a harmonious regime for the governing body of the city, and that is what the city is more generally in need of at the present time than anything else in the way .'of executive council. O. A. Smith is a practical business man. He believes in dealing with issues which the city is capable of handling for the present, at the same time bearing in mind reservations for future growth and progress consistent with practical, common-sense business methods. Beclouding of any issue by a visionary phan tasmagoria ' of multi-colored pictures, setting forth deceptive promises of the impossible, serve not the city nor the best interests of the people thereof, but merely appear in the., light of some self-centered, . political malcontent, seeking to assuage personal animosities, or derive therefrom some purely selfish attain ment under the deceptive banner of public benefactory camouflage. o .
