Thortpaon: Pom ' Reports from the United States public health laboratory, in Portland, w here ducks, ailing from a disease which local officers were unable to diagnose, give assurance that the birds examined were not infected with the deadly botulinus. Fear for the health of hu mane, even their lives, resulted in warnings being sent out by the Klamath county health authorities, when it became known that thou sands cf the birds had been found sick, dying or dead from some affliction, in the Tule lake regicn. Thai the ducks did not die from botulinus will be a source of relief to many hunters. It may be welcome news also to those otherwise directly or indirectly interested in the hunting of game birds. But the mystery of why the ducks became sick and died, is still unsolved. The U. S. health authorities, in reporting their findings to the Klamath health officials, informed those, same personages in their re port, that while no traces of botulinus were found either in cultures taken from organs of the cucks, nor mud taken from the lake, that they had "neither the time nor equipment to do a thoxcugh business of juvestigaJtiori, which your conditions there certainly demand." - ' Again in their report, the U. S. authorities state there 13 a marked possibility- that the birds died from a chemical poisoning rather than bacterial infection. But they did not have time nor equipment to tell us what the ducks did die from. Con- sequently, it would appear that the public is still menaced from this source. People, after they are dead, insofar as any information we have ever received, care little whether a chem ical cr bacterial infection killed them. In the meantime, both commercial inter ests and sportsmen are still nonplussed when it comes to taking a chance cn eatir.g ducks from the Tule lake region. Pests for Klama'h Falls street signs have arrived, is a report issued by the chamber of commerce. No effort should be spared to have these street signs placed. Klamath Falls needs many things, and wi'I continue to need them, in order to keep pce with her remarkable growth, but street signs and numbers are, or should be. listed among those which should be given first-hand attention. Nothing is so disgusting to the arriving stranger than the discomfiture of not being able to locate an address for want of street signs. Especially is this so in connection with automobile arrivals, who are compelled to either step and shout st seme pedestrian, or inquire at the nearest business or residential habitation.
