Another Eg ij Bites the Dust Klamath Fa'h H::A'i I J Gain ami Nothing to Lcsj Another bogie man has bitten the dust. George Long, of the Weyerhaeuser Com pany, testifying on Tuesday before the Inter state Commerce Commission at Portland, de clared that while he strongly favored the Northern lines coming to Klamath Falls, as well as the Southern Pacific, he admitted, under cross examination, that the timber would have to be cut in either event, as a great deal of it was ripe. So that's that. Klamath Falls will also be interested in the cross examination on Tuesday of W. P. Kenney, vice president in charge of traffic of the Great Northern. Ben C. Dey, Southern Pacific counsel was the questioner. Here's from the transcript: Q. Now then, is it not a fact, Mr. Ken ney, that districts served by more than one carrier and in which the transportation prob lem is therefore a divided interest, do not ob tain the same car service as those places where the responsibility rests upon only one? A. No, I wouldn't say so. I would say the statements were absolutely different in our territory. Q. AH right, I will read to you from the brief of your own railroad, the Great Northern, in the Wenatchee Southern case: "Districts served by more than one carrier in which the transportation problem is the divided interest do not obtain as good car service as those places where the responsi bility rests upon one line." All of which reassures us in our stand that Klamath Falls HAS EVERYTHING TO GAIN AND NOTHING TO LOSE BY THE CARRYING OUT OF THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC PROGRAM. Let the hearing go on, and may Klamath F alls come away from it, as it will, with the assurance of MAIN LINE SERVICE TO THE EAST. Will Take College to Farm Radio Is a Boon to the Farmers Radio broadcasting by ending the isolation of farm life, will be the greatest factor of modern times in keep ing young men on the farms, declared General J G Har bord, president of the Radio Corporation of America in a recent address. "With 31,000,000 people living on farms, the agri cultural colleges enroll but 150,000 students. It will en. able the student, whose college course has been inter rupted, to continue it, often with the same instructors. "Of all that may be said of radio, the best is that it will tend to keep young people on the farm. There is the true independence, there is the r,al throno of u,p Affl near. .sovereign. Entertainment and culture and the throbbing bfe of the metropolis, carried t, the farm by radio helping to make rural life morc nttrll.fiv iim, desirable, will sustain that class which is the backbone of our national existence."
