THE KLAMATH DAILY NEWS CSS AN INDEPENDENT REPUBLICAN NEWSPAPER He Should Worry! Heart Cf Home Problems lly Mrs. KIImIh-Hi Thoiopwm r hiih Mi k.1 .... Z"ni,-JM "Let u have faith that right maket might, and in that faith let ua to the end dare to do our duty at we understand it." Abraham Lincoln. Thorny , r 1 Tj 11 1 11 r If-l-lA iiaKe ir ah-i ear nauu Preventable Wa te by Forest Fire Inexcusable Last year, 92,000 forest fires swept over 20,000.000 acres of lands, causing a money damage of $38,000,000, exclusive of all forest, watershed, wild life and recrea tional values. These were probably several times the loss actually listed. There were 24,000 more fires than dur ing 1923, and 45,000 more than the nine-year average. Preventable waste of this character is inexcusable. "Fire Prevention" week is October 7th to 10th. It is safe to predict that there will be fewer fires during this week than normal. Instead of dropping back into the old rut of "fire carelessness" at the end of the week, why not continue "Fire Prevention" as a national all-year habit? Opposing Progress Is Childish Pierce Hurt By Newspaper Publicity Governor Pierce charges the automobile, the movie and the daily newspaper with being responsible for the modern crime wave. ' As to the daily newspaper, he says "two-thirds of the front page of the average newspaper is taken up with the narration of crime." His assertion is so preposterously false as to newspapers that we im agine the people will conclude he i3 equally wrong a3 to autos and movies. To rail against progress is childish; lo misrepresent facts which anyone can verify is peevish ness run mad. What hurts the governor is that the news papers have printed so much news about him that he has little chance of re-election. Oregon Voter. Keep the Home Fires Burning Ml Jt U'. III I I MM I Radio Has Become Very Populor v - Radio has become almost a household requisite. Nothing has done more to promote the home-loving in stinct than the ever-growing popularity of this great pleasure-giving and educational invention. From this one may fairly reason that wherever the installing of radio sets is on the increase the home-loving instinct is certainly not on the wane. And, since the broadcast program is essentially a thing to be enjoyed by . the family circle, it is to the family circle the radio will cater. - IwJJ Seldom has the human demand for novel entertain ment found so admirable a combination. As the call for more radio service grows, so also grows the attraction of the home. And as the attraction of the home becomes stronger so the call for better broadcast programs be come more insistent. Everything tends to make the radio influence a well spring of good. So excellent a caterer to all that is most desirable in promoting true human happiness certainly deserves the very best of the public to whom it ministers- o "Suffer little children to come unto me." They're not wanted in apartment houses and there's no place for them on the streets. o . The prize for absent-mindedness goes to the man who was knocked down by the surf and looked for its license number. o : Poor man ! If he marries too soon he can't keep up his wife; if he marries too late he can't keep up with her. o The man who isn't good at anything else can always advise a widow who has money to invest. o . Anyway, a war to make the world safe for something makes it safe for about six months.
