United News Chinese troops and
police bare been ordered to protect
the Uvea and property of persons
of Chinese, according to advices re
wired Tuesday by the state depart
ment from American Consul General
Jenkins, at Cunton.
Jenkins, said he had been assured
by Dr. C. C. Wu that foreigners
would be afforded protection. His
message was dated Monday.
"These assurances" the state de
partment commented, "seem to In
dicate that the local authorities

sponsibility." Jenkins also reported that firms
