Alton wa led into the murder plot by the domineering infiuenze of his uncle, who was said to possess al most hypnotic powers over the . youth. They murdered their victim hy smothering hr to death with an ammonia soaked rag. That account-' ed for the strange red marks on her face. The bruises were caused when they caught and held her. Supnuie Court HnliU Arthur Covell was convicted of murder by a Jury which recom mended hanging. Alton Covell was found guilty and sentenced to life Imprisonment. Today he is serving nil. sentence in the same institu tion where bis uncle was hanged. 1 The case of Peare was not so singular. Pearce went wild on some moonshine of his own distillation in December. 1922. and killed his wife with a hunting rifle. Then he went to the home of James Cul ver, a neighbor, with whom he had quarreled, and shot him. Both Covell and Peare took their eases to the state supreme court, which upheld the lower court sentences. Governor Pierce re fused to interfere with hteir execution. tr I KL it.-- H .t rrl & - . .... u ... . . a Harold Bateman Dean Beckley Velr.ia Brown Vernon C hristy Mae Crystal Fred Goeller Elizabtih Craham Ciiarlt Ma.k Ed Crimm Dchiia Hawkins Jo-.phine M,.: k- I i 4 iiS goal I UJ i Florence Hector I.aura Holliday Bonita Keesee Hugh Kerwin Alice Kos teraldinc Mars ncrAnna Micha"!:'oT Alice VIINt Gertrude Moak Harry Molalore Robert Murphy Max Newsnm Bethel Nixon Oliver l'anti-r Harry Teltz WVn.Iell I'r in,.
