HERALD AND NEWS, Klamath GIFTS OF THE MAGI Tht choin in her hand seemed to flash with a re flection of her ardent spirit. "Isn't it a dandy Jim?. You'll have to look at the time a hundred' times a day now. Give me your watch. I want to see how it looks on it." DEAR POLLY - Everyone asks how I manage my eight small children. The oldest is 11. II is really a simple job to get children lo do their share if they understand they are part of the family and. as such, must help make things pleasant for everyone, including dear old mom. The five w ho go to school get tlwmselves dressed, have break fast, brush their teeth and straighten their beds. The three little one pick up toys and and take out the garbage. Aft er lunch the little ones and I take a nap and, by this time, J need it. When the older children come home, they take off their school clothes, bang up those that can be worn again, put on play clothes and then have a snack of their choice. Next they do written homework before sup per. They know playtime comes only after this is finished. A schedule for each one's evening duties is taped inside the kitchen closet door. This is a weekly schedule and shifts the duties daily. The duties are setting the table, stacking dish es, washing, drying, picking up toys and papers. The one who sets the table does nothing aft er dinner. This is his or h e r night to relax, watch television and so on. Any remaining study is done after supper with moth er and dad on hand to help. Changes have to be made occa sionally for special events or when one child is away vis iting, or sick. The children aren't denied fun with this rou tine. We have baseball players on school teams, camping trips in the summer and family pic nics. Our neighbors' children know that our youngsters have speci fic play times and wait I o r those hours to call them, illy two little girls. 8 and 9. iron beautifully, can sew buttons on playclotiics and make and ice cakes and cupcakes. Before bedtime we pray together as a family to give thanks for all the blessings bestowed upon us. My husband and 1 are trying to teach and love with all our hearts Cus wonderful group of children for whom we are so grateful. The ninth little angel is ex pected very shortly and our baby of now will be 3 around Christmas lime. I am writing as my washing machine churns away fv I do eight loads of clothes every five days, fix a "banquet" for 10 every night and can or freeze 150 jars of jelly and 50 quarts of most all vegetables. So you see, life can be fun if there are a few rules to fol low. This, I feel, is good train ing, because most of our lives are governed by certain laws and rules. If taught early, we learn to respect them and en jov life to the fullest.-MRS. EM. GIRLS This letter should be an Inspiration to all parents. POLLY Official Details Released On Holy Land Pilgrimage JERUSALEM. Jordan UP1 The apostolic delegate in Jerusalem. Jlsgr. Linzo Zanini. Saturday disclosed first official details of Pope Paul's pilgrim age to the Holy Land Jan. 4-6. He emphasized the schedule was subject to change "until the last moment." There were no surprises in the schedule. It closely followed pre vious unofficial speculation, hut it was noted that despite the relative swiftness of the papal program time is allowed or a possible "holy summit" meet ing with Archbishop Athenago ras, patriarch of the Creek Or thodox Church, if he comes to Jerusalem. As the itinerary now stands, Pope Paul will leave Home Saturday. Jan. 4. and fly non stop to Amman, the Jordanian capital, where he is due at 1 p. m. Jordan time. The question was asked again Saturday, on the 84th anniver sary of Stalin's birth, by a new generation of Soviet children if they happened to notice a small-print entry on calendars reading, "1879 V. Stalin was born." There was not one word in the Soviet press about the post humously discredited, once-defied leader. Before his death, almost 11 years ago, he would have monopolized the front pages of all newspapers. Stalin was removed from Lenin's marble mausoleum in liKil and buried a few yards behind it under the Kremlin Wall beside the graves of the Soviet Union's late presidents, Yakov Sverdlov and Mikhail Kalinin. The area, including the Lenin mausoleum, was blocked to the public. It will remain inacces sible for a month. This is pre sumably because of repairs pc riodically done to preserve the embalmed Lenin.
