The De fense secretary and his aides were unhurt. McNamara and his party were delayed four hours on their take-off to Saigon, South Viet Nam. on a fact-finding mis sion. They finally left aboard another U.S. Air Force plane from another airport, Le Bour get, north of Paris. The Air Force spokesman said the plane's tires would be repaired "and otherwise it is all right." "The pilot aborted his takeoff when he saw the TWA plane on the runway," the sxkesman said. "If he hadn't seen the TWA plane, he would have hit it. He braked hard." Both Air Force and TWA spokesmen told UPI their pilots were "not responsible." Airport officials did not immediately know whether any further in quiry would be made into the conflicting statements. JFK Coin Approved WASHINGTON UPI Prompt Senate approval is ex pected for a House-passed bill to authorize a 50-cent piece bearing a likeness of John F. Kennedy. The measure, approved Tues day by the House on a 352-6 roll call vote over some Repub lican protests of hasty action, appeared likely to clear the Senate this week before Con gress adjourns. Another bill to honor Kenne dy was before the House Rules Committee today for clearance to the floor. It would help build a national cultural center in Washington to be named the "John Fitzgerald Kennedy Cen ter for Performing Arts." The cultural center legislation was approved Tuesday by the House and Senate Public Works Committees. Last - minute House debate over the bill flared when Re publicans objected to fast ac tion on the measure. Rep. H. R. Cross, R-Iowa, asked why the bill was consid ered before a proposed meas ure to mint a commemorative coin in honor of the late Speak er Sam Rayburn, D-Tex. Rep. Pahl A. Fino. R-N. Nepal lUPIl -Tuocompanions today told how David Wyatt, 20. of 'ioseburg, Ore., was killed Dec. 4 in a 500 foot all while crossing Tashi Lapcha pass in Central Nepal. Steve McCarthy and Gary Payne, both students at Reed College in Portland. Ore., said they and Wyatt, a Chicago Uni versity student, had organized a private scientific expedition to the foot of Mt. Everest to col lect speciments of beetles and butterflies for the Smithsonian Institution in Washaigton, DC, and the Chicago Museum of Na tural History. "We had finished trekking around the villaue of Namche bazar at tlie foot of Mt. Eve rest and were returning to Kat mandu through the Rolwalling Mountains," Payne said. "While crossing 20,000 - oot high Tashi Lapcha pass, David suddenly slipped 500 feet to his death." The said the accident oc curred far west of the Everest mountain range in the Eastern Nepal Himalayas. They said they complied with Ncpalese government orders not to climb any mountain peaks since they were considered a non-climbing scientific team. In Roseburg, Ore., the youths' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Wyatt, got a telegram from Payne and McCarthy Tuesday telling them of the tragedy. Motion Filed SALEM (UPI) A motion to Intervene in the case of the De partment of Fish and Game of California versus the Federal Power Commission was filed in the ninth U.S. Court of Appeals, Atty. Gen Robert Y. Thornton said today. The case involves construction of a $1 million fish hatchery on the Klamath River near the site of the Pacific Power and Light Company's new Iron Gate Dam just south of the Oregon-California border. S. ambassador to .the United Nations, called a news confer ence today to summarize the American view of the 18th Gen eral Assembly session's accom plishments. He was expected to empha size three outstanding themes of the three-month session dis armament, development and decolonization. The assembly wound up its quietest session in recent years on a note of optimism Tuesday with President Johnson's pledge to work for peace, civil rights and human welfare. The speech was generally well received by U.N. diplo mats. Soviet Ambassador Nikolai T. Fedorenko responded favorably to Johnson's call for an end to the cold war. Fedorenko said he hoped for further East-West agreements to follow up the Moscow nuclear test ban treaty. Assembly President Carlos Sosa Rodriguez adjourned the session an unprecedented three days ahead of schedule Tues day night. The general optimism among U.N. delegations was typified by the remark of Carl W. A. Schurmann, Netherlands am bassador and chairman of the main political committee, who said issues which stirred acri monious debate in previous years were passed by acclama tion this fall. The new proposal was worked out early today at sessions be tween union and company negotiators who were working against the deadline in an effort to prevent a walkout against the nation's biggest airline at the height of the Christmas rush. The union negotiating team did not recommend approval or rejection of the proposal but ma chinists' officials appeared to be pleased by the terms of the proposed contract.
