ANCIENT MEMENTO Gary Wishart, senior ai Klam
ath Union High School, who ii also a deer hunter, recent
ly found this relic of the old logging railroad era. Gary,
son of Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Wishart, 403 Alameda, was
traveling up the mountain toward Swan Lake, over the
ridge when he found this brass nameplate bearing the
inscription, "The Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadel
phia, 42102, USA, May, 1915." It lay near an abandoned,
torn up railroad track, built in the days when lumbering
was king in the Klamath country.
Czech Teacher Writes
Kennedy Condolences
By ItUTIl KING
An expression of sympathy
followng Hie death of President
John F. Kennedy, has been re
ceived from a resident of a Rus
sian satcllile country, Czecho
slovakia, by Jlr. and Mrs.
Frank Payer Jr. of Malin.
The writer was a teacher,
Helen Lindhartova, who has
corresponded with Mrs. Paygr
since the Malin couple was in
Europe in HH8. She was on
their plane to London where
she was going to attend a sum
mer session to study English, to
permit her to teach the lan
guage In her own country.
Airs. iPaygr is home econom
ics teacher in the Malin High
School. Jler husband ranches
near Malin.
The expression of her sorrow
in America's tragedy follows:
"I can't find words for ex
pressing my deep sympathy
Willi all the American peo
ple. Allow me to express my
.surtpalliy at least to you. We
all here feel the President's tra
gic death as a great loss not
only for Americans but for the
whole progressive world.
"We had a high esteem and
respect for your President and
his policy. Our newspapers have
brought his last photograph wilh
his wife and Hie governor f
Texas he is laughing there. He
was too young! We compare
him with A. Lincoln. But as for
J. F. Kennedy, he was so young
and so wise. He knew that man
kind wants peace.
"We especially appreciate his
policy of supporting the ratifi
cation of tlie treaty in Moscow
forbidding atomic tests.
"I could not postpone writing
you now that your country is
having so much grief. 1 want
ed to say, 1 am with you, I am
feeling with you."
Frank Paygr Jr. is the son of
Malin pioneers who helped set
tle the Matin community in
WOO.

tlie deed over, and it seems all
right."
Ownership of the proposed

Attorneys for Boeing Co.,
