FURNITURE APPLIANCES, Holy Water Accident Douses Eternal Flame Complications Send Connolly Back To Hospital WASHINGTON' H.T1 - The eternal flame on President Ken nedy's grave at Arlington Na tional Cemetery dickered out for about on minute Tuesday because of a freakish acci dent. A group of children was visit ing the grave when the cap came off a bottle of holy water. "A stream of water hit the flame directly, extinguishing it." John Mttzler, cemetery su perintendent, said. "An attend ant relighted the flame imme diately. I estimate it was out for only one minute." Metzler was at a loss to ex plain how a small amount of water could have extin;uihed a flame which has continued to burn in heavy rains and high winds. He said he was not present when the accident happened, but reconstructed the events later. Tliere were about 20 children from 8 to 11 years old in the group, Metzler said. They were taking turns sprinkling the grave with holy water. Various plans have been ad vanced for substituting a per manent burner, possibly with a gas fuel line, at the grave. The present flame is from a temporary burner, about a foot in diameter. Al'STIN, Tex. 'L'PI' Texas Gov. John Connally, shot down with President Kennedy Nov. 22 and tliought well enough to be released six days ago, was back in tlie hospital today w ith com plications from his wounds. The new ailment was inflam mation of a blood vessel in his right leg, the indirect result of the sniper's bullet tliat passed first through his chest, then hit his wrist and went into his leg. His doctor called it a "super ficial inflammation" and said the governor would be in St. David's Hospital for five or six days. Tlie doctor said Connally's condition was not serious and no surgery would be required. Connally will carry on routine business while he is in the hos pital, a spokesman said. Mrs. Connally, who staed at the governor's side for tlie 13 days lie was in Parkland Hospital in Pallas after the shooting, stayed home with the couple's three children this Hue. Mrs. Connally was in t h e presidential "buhbletop" limou sine next to her husband and in front of Jacqueline Kennedy when (lie sniper fired his fatal shots into Kennedy and wound ed her husband. During treatment at Parkland Hospital, Connally had to be fed intravenously through a lube in liis right calf. Doctors said a coagulation of blood clots, called a "superficial thrombophlebitis" occurred at the point where tlie tube was inserted. The governor's arm was still in a cast because of his shat tered wrist. Connally held a television in terview in his room at Park land Hospilal during his stay there. On Thanksgiving Day, he watched tlie I'niversity of Texas-Texas AIM football PRIZE WINNERS Five American authors have won the Nobel Prize for litera ture.
