' LTD While, most of the San, Francisco Forty Niners probab ly will be fighting just to hold their jobs next spring after their dismal 1963 season, there is one member of the team who de serves a raise. Slim Abe, Woodson is re rit ing the record book in the spe cialized art of running back, kicks and kickoffs. ' He already holds a fist lull of marks including most yards from runbacks during a career, 3,938; most kickoff returns in a season, 37; most kickoff returns in a game, 17; and most yards from kickoffs in a season, 1.157. Woodson has led the loop in kickoff runbacks two years and could become the first man ever to annex three crowns this year. Lynn Chadnois held the high est klelime average with a 30.0 record for 90 returns. Abe has lugged back 131 for 30.1 yards cr try. Woodson already has scored five touchdowns on kickoff run backs, one short of Ollie Mat son's mark. San Francisco Forty Nincr coach Jack Christiansen credits Abe's great speed and reac tions for his' broken-field wiz ardry. "Woodson also has the long strides of a hurdler that enables him to'glide around a tackier with no loss of speed," Jack adds. The young coach also had a few comments about Sunday's battle at Chicago against the Bears. "Even though we beat them the last lime out, we're not tak ing the Bears lightly," he dead panned. That Forty Niner w in was the only time that the Bears have tasted defeat this season, but Chicago has had trouble the past two weeks with ties against Pittsburgh and Minnesota. Christiansen said the Bears' defense is still murder, but fum bling, dropped passes and in juries to such stalwarts as Rick Casares and Ronnie Bull have crippled the ollcnse. Only Forty Niner missing from Wednesday's practice was defensive back Elbert Kim brough. He stayed indoors, re ceiving treatment for a muscle pull.
