CBS has announced the Yale Harvard game will be telecast in the East, starting at 1:15 p.m. EST, and that the Baylor Rice game will be shown in the South and Southwest, starting at 2:4.5 p.m. EST. "We have height and have improved considerably to t h e point where I feel we could be among the top contenders this year." So speaks Jerry Bennett in pre-season look at the Gilchrist Grizzlies. The Gilchrist head man is not alone in his optimistic apprais al. Other league mentors see the Grizzlies as a definite threat to the title taken last year by the Chiloquin Panthers and the dis trict crown grabbed by the Mer rill Huskies. Height and experience are the Grizzlies' strong suits. Nine let termen were counted by Ben nett at the initial turnout led by three-year veteran Dan Hoff, a senior standing 6-5 and the team's leading scorer last year. The Grizzlies look to the re bounding strength of 220-pound, Sports Center To e Named For JFK PORTLAND (UPl'-The pro posed Delta Park complex north of Portland m a y be renamed the John F. Kennedy Memorial Park, and Stadium. Naming the sports complex for the late president was sug gested Wednesday by two Delta Park Commissioners. Edward Whelan and Robert Gunderson. The Idea drew some support from city and county officials at a meeting but was opposed by the City Commissioner Or mond Bean. He said the city had gone to a lot of trouble to name the park site and if it were changed the public would have to lie re educated. This is the group which Ben nett feels will improve Gilchrist basketball fortunes considerably during the new campaign. Last year the Grizzlies ended the season with a .500 mark at 10 wins and 10 setbacks. It was a number of close set backs stopping the Grizzlies from capturing a portion of the league and district crowns, such as a an overtime loss to Mer rill in the district tournament in addition to a 74-70 regular would be reluctant to again go through the proceedings to name the park. The commission decided to study the proposal for future recommendation to city a nd county commissioners. The park belongs to the city, but the stadium, if approved by voters, would be built by the county. A plan for creating an inter national center for athletics at Delta Park was proposed by Ed W e 1 c h. representing Eb asco, Inc., of San Francisco. Proponents argued that nam ing the park after President Kennedy would have some meaning for foreign officials, while Delta Park would not.
