These are some of the reac tions of persons in Klamath Falls to the death of President Kennedy at the hands of an as sassin Friday. "It leaves you with nothing to think about. It's as if every thing ended right there." That was the reaction of a Malin farmer, Ed Cacka. Klamath Falls Mayor Robert VeaUh summed up his reaction to the assassination in one word: Flags Should Be Flown Half Mast For 30 Days Organizations and individu als desiring to display Ameri can flags at halt mast in mem ory of the late President John F. Kennedy should do so for a peiiod of 30 days. In March, 11154, Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, then president of the United States, designated by proclamation that the flag should remain at half mast for that appeared to cover an in jured hand. For several days, his condi tion held out some hope of re covery, but a week later lie be came suddenly worse and died. There comes now the assassi nation of President Kennedy. A suspect lias been arrested. He is Lee H. Oswald. He is a former Marine with a 'dishon orable discharge. He is a pro Castro Marxist. He once sought citizenship in communist Rus sia. He follows the historic pat tern of American assassins. Without exception, they have been crackpots. That suggests a thought for those of us who have not agreed politically with some of our Presidents. Perhaps' we liave been TOO PARTISAN. Perhaps our partisanship has been unin tentionally carried TOO FAR. We can make the necessary rationalizations. We can make cracks alwut the man in the White House without meaning anything disrespectful to the President of the United .States. Perhaps the crnckxts CAN'T. At least, it's worth some seri ous thinking on our part. McKinley Service Recalled Mrs. W. A. Bishop, 429 North Ninth, who was a little girl of 9 at the time, told the Herald and News Saturday that she could "vividly recall" the me morial services that followed the death of President McKinley in IDOL McKinley, the last President to be assassinated until the death of President Kennedy Friday, was shot Sept. 6, 1901, but did not die until a week later. Mrs. Bishop said she was liv ing in Menominee, Mich., at the time and could remember services being held on the court house lawn. "I remember, sitting on the steps of the bandstand and lis tening to them' play 'Nearer My God To Thee'," she said. Death Claims Elderly Man An elderly Klamath Falls man, Charles Arthur Spore, 83, was found dead in the bathtub of his home at 2919 Summers Lane Saturday afternoon. He was found by his son, Johnny Spore, 2915 Summers Lane, who summoned the Peace Ambulance. The elder S p o r e was pronounced dead when the ambulance arrived.
