It was the senators who were burning. The target of their ire was Rep. Tom Steed. D-Okla., who made the call girl charge in connection with the $1S8 mil lion legislative appropriation bill. Steed, annoyed by the Sen ale's stand against free mailing privileges for congressmen, told a newsman a few weeks ago that tlie Senate had some privi leges of its own. He mentioned that he knew of two call girls on an unspecified senator's pay roll. Senators appeared annoyed about the views of Steed and his House colleagues on the "junk" mail issue as well as the call girl allegation. Following a potluck supper, Jim Lane, president, in troduced the honored guests. Lane gave a brief talk on the history of schools in Klamath County, particularly the Bonan za area. Dr. Cliff Robinson also spoke on the school system, comparing present day schools with those of the past. Pictures were shown of several old schools and class groups from the first county schools. The next Farm Bureau meet ing will be held on Dec. 18. There will be a discussion of the state convention in Salem which was attended by Lane and several other members. Will Sell Shares Byrnes said he knew that he would be criticized now wheth er he sold or kept tlie stock, but he has decided to divert himself of all his shares in the company and keep only the money involved in his original investment. "I will donate the remainder to Scholarships, Inc.. of Green Bay, Wis., a charitable organi zation which provides higher education for deserving stu dents in my hometown who could not otherwise afford lo go to college," he said. Summing up his personal fi nances, Byrnes said he owned no other stocks or bonds, had no outside connections or finan cial interests, no savings ac counts and a few thousand dol lars in checking accounts. Truman Johnson. 419 Delta Street, told police he and bis wife left the house at 7: 10 p.m. for a meeting and returned at 11:40 p.m. to find two bedrooms of the house ransacked. He said both doors of the house had been locked when he left, but police believe the bur glar gained entry by using a skeleton key on the back door. Taken from the two bedrooms were a diamond ring valued at $150. a wedding band valued at $25, an opal ring, a jewel box, two women's watches valued at $.15 and $15. 10 to 15 necklaces valued at $30, a gold necklace valued at $25, and two boxes of .22 cartridges. The panel, established by tlie General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1GATT1, estimated that the Uniled States lost $26 million a year in its exports to the common market because of the market countries' prohibi tive duty on poultry imports. Christian A. Herler. the Pres ident's special representative for trade negotiations, said in a statement that the United Slates will now proceed with plans to increase American tar iffs on selected items equivalent to $2B million worth of common market imports into this coun try. Noting that the tariff experts' estimate of the losses to the United States were $20 million below U.S. estimates, Herler said: "It is a judgment rendered by a panel of distinguished in dividuals who are thoroughly familiar with GATT practices and procedures and it will therefore be accepted by the United States in good faith." Charley and PcRKy Solomon of Philadelphia have managed to acquire over nine thousand master paints between them. This is the most master points held by any married couple. Of more importance, they are great ornaments to the game of bridge and just about as delight ful a couple as it is possible to be. The strongest point of their partnership is accurate bidding. Today's hand shows them at their best. Anyone can reach a minor suit slam with their cards, but when this hand came up in the Philadelphia regional they were the only couple lo bid it. A few pairs played a club or diamond game, but most people reached three no trump and promptly went down one trick. The club opening, diamond re sponse and club rebid were nor mal. Peggy's two no-trump re bid was also normal, although most players jumped to three no-trump with her cards. Peg gy felt that such a jump should Indicate better stuff in the ma jors and she sure was right. Charley's ' bid of three dia monds told Peggy that at least one major would be wide 0en so she went to four clubs. Charley bid four spades. He saw slam possibilities and had nothing to lose. Peggy surely would not pass. The four spade bid gave Peg gy a chance for a fine deduc tion. Charley had hid three suits. Surely he would not have shown the ace of spades if he held two losing hearts.
