DUCKS ARE FAVORED Oregon Ducks Seeking first Victory Over Beavers Since 1958; Coach Prothro Installs Gate Guards EUGENE (UPI) Oregon will bo seeking its first victory over Oregon Slate since 1958 'when the traditional rivals meet here Saturday in the final game of the season. The Beavers won 20-17 last year, 6-2 in 1961 and 15-7 In 1959. The 1960 game ended in a 14-14 tic. The Ducks have been made a S-point favorite on the strength of a 6-3 season record and last weekend's come-from-behind 28- 22 victory over Indiana. Oregon State has a 5-4 record after losing by an identical 28 22 score U Southern California last Friday night. Oregon's main Job will be stopping the pass combination of Gordon Queen to Vern Burke. Queen leads the nation in touch down passes this year with 16, and Burke has caught 9 of them. Burko, who led the na tion with 69 catches a year ago, has 42 and Is in second place this year. The Ducks have their own ex plosive offense in Quarterback Bob Berry, who has thrown for 14 touchdowns, and All-America halfback Mel Rcnfro, along with halfbacks Larry Hill and H. D. Berkis gained 133 yards against the Seattle Ramblers Saturday for a total of 648 yards on 134 carries for a 4.8 aver age. Oregon Tech's Bob Battle, w ho played the same number of games but finished a week ear lier, had 647 yards on 169 car ries for a 3.9 average. Extended Seasons Set Last Chances For Deer Deer hunters holding unit per mits for the Baker, Lookout Mountain, Catherine Creek, Fort Rock, McKenzie, Metolius, Pau lina, and Wasco big game man agement units will get their last crack at deer this year when several extended hunts get un der way this month. In all cases, an unused deer tag and unit permit are necessary to be eligible to hunt during the ex tended seasons. In northeastern Oregon, three holders. These include the Elk hom Area for Baker permit holders, with the season sched uled Nov. 30 through Dec. 8; the Durkee hunt (or Lookout Mountain permit holders, with the season also scheduled Nov. 30 through Dec. 8; and the Medical Springs aiea for Cath erine Creek permit holders, with this season scheduled- next month, Dec. 14-22. Permit hold ers in these areas must hunt for antlerlcss deer only. Four hunts are on tap in cen tral Oregon. Fort Rock per mit holders will get one last chance this weekend, Nov. 23 24, on the Fort Rock Winter Range area. Antlerlcss deer only may be taken.
