Sol Silverman, chairman of the Governor's Committee for Safeguards in Professional Box ing, pointed out that Liston does not have a license to fight in cither California or New York and that both states "ar! as one in hc:r 'puaition to mismatches." And Liston may have trouble getting a license in California. Silverman said he recently received a letter from Chair man Hayward Plumadare of the New York Joint Legisla tive Committee stating that his group would "like to hear Mr. Liston state under oaift that ho has severed all connections with criminal elements."
