For many years Hoover was interested in seed crops and, working with Oregon State uni versity and other scientists, helped to bring about the use of native Jackson County grasses for use in pastures. He is cred ited with having been the first to sow seed from an airplane, done Jo publicize the area as a seed-growing center. The effort received nationwide recognition. In recent years Hoover and his sons have been engaged in buying and selling land in the White City area, tlie site of Camp White during World War II. In the tree planting project, 42 varieties have been used, coming from all over the Uni ted States. Leading their classes with a perfect 4.0 grade average were Sylvia Manley, senior, and Mar alyn Edwards, junior.
