Accident Kills 8 Members Of Oregon Migrant Family By I' tilled Press International One of the worst traffic acci dents in New Mexico history killed the father and seven chil dren of an Oregon migrant family early Sunday. Oregon traffic accidents took the lives of three other residents during the weekend. Another man died of accidental burns and one was electrocuted at a Wyoming construction project. A car pulling a small trailer Foes Vow To Back Initiative PORTLANB UPH The Young Democratic Clubs of Ore gon and the Young Republican Federation of Oregon have promised bi-partisan backing for an initiative campaign to amend the Oregon Constitution to re quire single-scat legislative dis tricts. The announcement was made in a joint statement by the pres idents of the two organizations. The proposal would divide all multi-seat legislative districts into single-seat districts. The initiative campaign, an nounced by the Oregon Junior Chamber of Commerce at a re cent annual meeting, received endorsement by Janen McLen nan, Portland, president of the Young Democrats, snd Robert Bell. The two explained that t h e present Oregon system has one senatorial district with eight senators while a dozen other dis tricts have only one senator a piece. Nixon is emerging as a prospect, for the MM Repub lican presidential nomination because of a widespread belief in GOP ranks that Gov. Nelson A. Rockefeller of New Y'ork cannot win it. Rockefeller still could surprise the Republican professionals and stay alive by winning one or more key presidential primary contests next year against Sen. Barry Goldwater of Arizona, If he fails, many Republicans expect Nixon to become the man behind whom anti-Gold-waler sentiment can unite. "Those who want someone less conservative than Gold water are looking at Nixon," UPI was told by one party leader who maintains contact with the former vice president. Nixon Not Eager "My impression is that ho is not eager to get into it, but he's aware that he can be shoved into it if a stalemate develops." Other Republicans suspect that Nixon is eager for a return match with President Kennedy despite his defeat in I!X0 and his poor showing against Gov. Edmund G. (Pad Brown in California last year. This evokes a logical question from Goldwater partisans: "Why should anyone think he can beat Kennedy now if he couldn't even beat that fellow Brown in California'!"
